Will the Cargo Plane (http://www.daz3d.com/douglas-cargo-plane) work in 3Dl or is it IRAY only?
Also wondering how long the 75% off promo pricing will be available. Yeh, I know, only DAZ knows, but just wondering, anyway.

I just bought it and it only seems to have iray materials. Unfortunately.
Thanks. I was really hoping it would be useable in 3Dl; but if not I guess I'll pass. I already spent too much with last month's Holday Sales, anyway
Duplicate post. Sorry
Since its based upon the DC-3/C-47, I only wish it had a solid nose and proper windows like the real thing. I'd like to do some pin-up poses with a vintage looking DC-3, but unfortunately this model won't work as it isn't quite a proper CD-3/C-47. Its close in many ways, to be sure. I hope the designer does a new version at some point to reflect this. Sorry for being a rivet counter.
I was going to ask if it had a civilian set up with the guns and gun-ports hidden. Since it's in .duf format it ought to be possible to make at least a GeoGraft cap for the nose, and perhaps windows, but left to my tender mercies I'm not sure when or how accurate the result would be (or more to the point, just how inaccurate).
Me too, unfortunately. I'd noticed it had full interior detailing, and I was looking forward to buying it, but then I noticed all the differences — it's just not close enough to an actual Dakota.
...this looks to be a bit more historically accurate and has textures for both the civilian and military versions and is 3DL freindly.

Sadly it does not have an interior.
There's this https://www.renderosity.com/mod/bcs/old-dakota/112258/ heaven forbid a user might actually have to do some texture/shader adjustmenets to make it work no matter the renderer.
The Douglas Cargo Plane works very well in 3Delight; attached is a quick small testrender I did last night.
The bad thing is that it won`t work in iray. When ever I try do do a iray render the whole system freeze... (only with the cargo plane... other things working without problem in iray)
Neil Wilson has one with variants over at ShareCG.
I am also finding that the model does not work in iray.
'does not work in Iray' how?
It's also not terribly hard to convert something to 3DL materials, unless it has a bazillion material zones, in which case nuts to that.
Here is the plane rendered in both 3DL and Iray, straight out of the box. As you can see, the 3DL version is lacking all the glass, the exposed metal is flat grey instead of metalic, and the texturing, in general, comes across as cartoonish rather than real. I can also see why people with slower systems would have big problems with thiws in iray as well, as it DOES take an awful long time to render in iray. Especially if you ldon't hide all the interior parts before rendering (or use the fuselage only version.) Even in 3DL, it spends quite a bit of time loading up all the images.
At this point my take is that you can probably use this, as is, for a cartoony type render using 3DL, but you'll have to do a bit of work to really get it up to snuff for a realistic shot, and the lack of the plain nosecone strikes me as quite odd on something that's being called a cargo plane rather than a military transport. Based on just the exterior, I'd have simply returned this to DAZ for a refund, but the interior should be useful enough that I'm willing to keep it. That said, these are obvious lacks that COULD be fixxed with an upgrade, and I suspect that those will be necessary for it to sell at anything more than the $6 purchase price I was able to pick it up for.
I use the actual DAZ Studio 4.9 and it does`t work in iray... it end up in a total system freeze (after a few seconds of render time)
Is there a tutorial for that? Or do just mean to replace the surface with a different 3Dl shader?
As you can see in my other post my 3Delight render looks nearly as your iray render (I did this render also straight out of the box)
I try the fuselage instead of the complete and this will work in iray (without any problem and with a normal render time). You can see the result below. The darker looking one is the 3Delight render.
But using the copmlete version will cause a freeze of the system after 49 seconds.
No, as with my 3DL render, ALL of the glass (the cockpit windows and the cover on the winglights) in your render are completely missing, while the metal on the wheels, nose and engines are also rendered as flat grey rather than the metalic textures that they should be. And to compound the problem, while the glass and the metal in the engines could easily be replaced using conventional 3DL shaders, for some reason the artist inexplicably decided to use a single texture area for both the metal struts/gears and the rubber tires, so to redo those will require creating new UV maps.
Or using the Geometry Editor tool to split the items into two surfaces - I suspect selecting one polygon on the tyre and then pressing cmd/ctrl-* to select all connected polygons will select the whole tyre, then assign to a new surface, repeat for each tyre (assigning to the existing surface the second and subsequent times).
Yeah, I'll grant that having tires and struts as one zone is weird and something I wish content creators wouldn't do.
But otherwise, yes, replace Iray glass with 3DL glass of your choice (you can either do it as a simple mid-low opacity item, a reflective surface, or actually use glass with meshlights or whatever you are into), and so on.
In a few cases Iray maps won't translate well to 3DL (particularly those requiring separate tiling, if you don't have the 3DL shader that does that), but I imagine most should.
Yes and no. Geometry wise, the wheels are broken into dozens and dozens of tiny parts, with just the rubber tires each broken into about eight sections, bisected vertically, but with no actual surface detail at all, so while it's doable, it would be a real PITA and I think you'd get a better result faster using something like Blacksmith3D's Paint.
