i tried simply renaming .dsa to .duf. i can see it in carrara browser now, but won't load. gives i/o error.
is there anything i can do from within carrara?
any special kind of import?
other choice is to load all these dress and hair texture.jpgs manually. >.<

Apply the dsa to whatever it was made for in DS, then save it back to a DUF. That will then load in Carrara.
I'm kind of wondering why you thought renaming the file extension would do anything? If you have a Photoshop file and don't have anything to open it, changing the file extension to .jpg doesn't change the underlying data to .jpg. Why would it be the same with Studio and Carrara?
Following Male-M3dia's suggestion is the best course of action. However, if there are some specialized Studio shading functions that are used, such as maybe a Studio procedural function, that may not translate properly to Carrara. Still, it should be easier than building it from scratch.
was act of desperation.
the shader that came with the new g3f circlet won't apply. it adds another instance, but is empty.
was from the christmas giveaway, store link is gone
looks pretty

not sure if it's not working cause it's an iray shader or cause it's for g3 figure.
experimenting to see what will work.
actually, i'm better off using carrara metal presets.
Is it just the circlet or is it the hair and circlet?
If it is a conforming item, then it is rigged to conform to a figure. If it is a Genesis 3, then that could very well be the main problem.
If it is a prop that gets parented to the head, then I don't think it should be a problem using it, as there is no underlying rig to conflict with Carrara.
I would also say that judging by the looks of the object, if it is just the circlet, then it probably doesn't use image maps and is a Studio type of procedural shader, in which case, then it won't load in Carrara. The good news is that Carrara has some very nice metal shaders, including gold, white gold, silver, platinum, etc. etc. etc. in the Shader Browser. Just select the model/actor, then the Shading tab, and drag the icon for the metal shader you want from the browser and drop it on the shading domain(s) for the circlet.
i'm willing to spend a few moola on carrara shaders. particularly fast rendering shaders lol
might look for some sales on products by the following vendors

also, there are quite a few free Carrara shaders if the link can be found.
