Greetings, quick question, does the Raw Energy Effects works when rendered with iRay? I would like to buy it, but not sure about it's compatibility with it.

Thanks in advanced.

It LOOKS like it should... been thinking of picking it up, myself. I've had good luck with adapting complex morphables like this to Iray.

Keep in mind that you can buy it, try it out, and if it really doesn't work for you, return it.

I do not have it, but I do not see any reason why it would not work. It consists of a prop and textures you place on it to give the feel of the fire breath etc. In iRay it might be a good idea to make the fire material into an emission shader as well, to make it glow. I have done this on other flame props, and it works fine.

They came out before iray....so will not likely have the best results. They would require proper iray shaders.

They may work basically, but not as great as they could be

...I"ve had success with Jepe's Flamez and other lighting effects using the Iray emissive shader.

This might be helpful in changing the settings for Iray: http://dazstudio-iray.deviantart.com/art/Iray-Effects-Sample-Screen-03-566350596

  • It works fine in Iray.  I've been reworking a 3Delight render I did earlier in the year into an Iray version.  I've attached samples of the dragonbreath from the Raw Energy.  The only thing I've done with it so far is swap out the skydome for an Iray skydome and hit all surfaces with the Iray Uber Shader so that I have emission channels to play with.  Even without playing with any surface settings, it looks good.  I imagine it will look even better once the surface settings have been changed.

I've also successfully used Jepe's stuff in Iray like kyoto kid has done.  Once you find the right mix of shaders and surface settings, these older products actually work quite well in Iray.

This will probably be the next thing I buy... so in about two weeks I'll experiment and post. ;)

Where exactly is said Iray Uber Shader and how do I apply it?  I realized that I really just need to suck it up and learn to use it lol.

Shader presets under 'Iray.' With your materials selected, just double click on the preset. It does a decent job converting 3DL shaders and preserves/moves texture maps as necessary. It's not perfect, but it's a good start.

The flames coming from the girls hand are Raw Energy Effects after I adapted them to iRay  (the background flames are Jepes which has also been mentioned in this thread!!)
