How do I get faster Iray renders?

I'm animating in Daz 4.8 on a mac. Typically I can get a shot down to a minute or less render time in Iray. But some scenes just will not render that fast no matter how much I tweak light and various tone mapping settings. Is there some setting I'm missing?

Have you checked for Reflection settings on the items in your scene? Sometimes you can get away without having them turned on.

THanks. I'll check that out.  The one key to fast renders that I've found is the amount of direct light hitting your figures. If one of those digital lamps is sending out digital lumens of light and they hit something directly...that thing will render pretty fast.  But, if the light is indirect and bouncing off two or thre things before it hits something...that area will be very slow to render. This does complicate the idea of having something in shadow.
