Q: Quick and Dirty Iray Lamp Setup

hello! I am looking for a way to do light bulbs right using Iray. What is the quick and dirty method?

The quickest way would be to add an ubershader to the bulb, then give some part of the light bulb model an Emission surface, I guess.

If your light bulb is modeled like a real world light bulb, you could make the inside the emitter and the outside glass.

Adjust the intensity to your needs -- or you could look up the real world light bulb intensity and then use the exact numbers.

Quick and dirty to set up, but it will render slow.

Your best bet, particularly if you aren't going to be doing close-ups on the lightbulb, is put a point light, put it where the bulb is, set it to sphere geometry, and adjust temp. It will render waaay faster.
