Hi
I have never made a custom morph for a genesis figure
I have many modeling programs at my disposal
so here is my question
Have a Legacy Character based on the vestgial Mike2
that I have dial-spun over the years to get a fairly decent
CG likeness of yours truly ( inset photo & Avatar)

He has a major role in my current file project and
For obvious reasons I would like to recreate him/me
as a genesis male.

So what would be the best approach
to accurately copy this old Mike2 head shape to the genesis 2 male??
all suggestions welcome.

Thanks

My first stab would probably be to export both to OBJ file format and import both into blender.

Line them up and make a vertex group for the head on the G2M object.  Add a shrinkwrap modifier to the G2M object and set the target to the Mike2 object and the vertex group to the one you made for your head.

Play with the shrinkwrap modifier settings and adjust the weights of the vertex group used until you're happy.

Apply the shrinkwrap modifier and export to obj.  Use morph loader pro or morph loader advanced to create the morph.

Other modeling applications should support a shrinkwrap modifier of some sort.  I use blender, so its the first tool I grab for projects like this.

Not sure there is an easy way to do this other than to push a Genesis 2 head into a modeler and try to recreate the head shape. If you could get a decent M2 clone for Genesis then in theory you could use the transfer utility trick used to move shapes between the Genesis version without using GenX. Since M3 comes with a version that has an M2 shape, I have tried to get this shape into M3 proper, and so transfer the M2 shape to Genesis using GenX, but I had no success. Even if I had managed to do this it would not help you much since the M3's version of M2 still has the M3 head shape, which is not what you want to transfer over a M2 head shape.

Sorry I could not be further help, if you find some automatic way of going this I would be interested in hearing it.

Of course transfering the characters texture over can be done, but you need both versions of 3DU's texture converter, ie 1 & 2.

If you've got a version of the morph updated to gen3 or gen4, then porting those to the Genesis series is what GenX and GenX2 are designed for. I think that M2 is a bit too far back for GenX to reach. But I've moved morphs from gen3 and gen4 to Genesis 1 and 2 fairly extensively. GenX hasn't got a G3 update yet, but I gather that one is in progress.

G3 can't use the older textures though. And the genesis series can only access textures back to gen4 unless you're prepared to jump though hoops. 3DU used to have a texture convereter which could move some gen3 textures to gen4 but I haven't heard anything about updating it beyond that.

Hi thanks for the replys. I have the Gen x plugin But it won't help with a figure As old as M2. Maxon c4d has a good shrink wrap modifier So it seems that will be my only option Thanks all

Hi, if you have Zbrush I believe that you might be able to use projection but I haven't done this myself yet only read about it. Blender may well be able to do this also...

Hi all I decided it was not worth all the work
and will just Use the old Mike 2 figure after all.sad

The main reason I wanted genesis was the beard
problems I was having with a really old conforming beard
for M2 from over  10 years ago.
I wanted to use  the facial hair I have for the G2 male

The problem was with lipsynch on the beard&mustache
notbeing able to keep up with the figures mouth movement
on the old Mike 2 self Avatar

Well I nearly forgot about Maxons Cinema4D's excellent Dynamic Hair System
that will grow hair out of any selected vertice

So Old Mike 2 Now has a New beard that deforms naturally with his facial
    animation.

So thankful to have many options outside of Daz/poserlaugh

    Cheers
