Making On Screen Controls and Sliders do the same thing (Rotate)

I need to fine tune rotate a plane.

HOWEVER, for DAZ knows why, despite using the rotate tool and seeing that rotating on the Z Axis is what I need (pic 1), but of course the manual tool isn't precise, it just jumps to whatver number it feels like, the rotate Z Axis slider spins the plane on a completely different axis.(pic 2)

I'd ASSUME this is some really bad implementation of a global vs local variable system, except, as the plane isn't parented, it should only be on global, and Daz doesn't seem to use any logical system of global/local anyway.

Can anyone give me some hints here?

  • You can turn on snapping in the Tool Settings pane, or use the Parameters or Posing pane.

Unless it works differently than it does in Unity or Photoshop or any other program.. then "Snapping" will in fact NOT make the manual tool more precise.

And did you miss the part where I said that the slider in the preference tab DOES NOT move the object in the same way the manual does..

despite using the rotate tool and seeing that rotating on the Z Axis is what I need (pic 1), but of course the manual tool isn't precise, it just jumps to whatver number it feels like, the rotate Z Axis slider spins the plane on a completely different axis.(pic 2)

I can understand how you missed it as it is only literaly the problem I posted about.

  • I'm not seeing the mis-match, though if you already have other rotations applied that could explain it using the universal axes (since they will then be at an angle to the local axes)

  • I've noticed that mismatch as well, although it isn't always happening. Something weird going on there.

One thing that just occurred to me about the "jumping parameter values", I've noticed for many versions now the default Nudge value for parameter dials is surprisingly high. Go into Parameter Settings for that dial and replace the Nudge value with something a lot smaller. E.g. the Translate dials all default to 1, I change that to 0.1 or even 0.01 for smoother movement. Exactly the same goes for the Rotate dials.

You can set the behaviour of the manipulator in the Tool settings panel. The only setting that gives a one-to-one correspondence to the sliders is "Use world coordinates (with local rotations)". You might also run into gimbal lock situations in any of the modes (either one value suddenly flipping, or not being able to apply a specific rotation at all).
