Victoria 4 textures on Genesis 3 Female (G3F)???

I have some V4 textures that I would love to use on G3F. Is there any way to transfer V4's uvs to G3F? I thought I saw a way to do it Studio thru some "save as" feature, but I'm clueless as to how to get the process to work. I've done searches on the site andd only come up with info that's dated back in June of this year. Nothing since. I have seen the tutorial that involves Studio and Blender and I'd really rather not "convert" the textures. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

That tutorial is about the only way, short of using a 3D paint program and the existing textures as source material and painting them on.

  • That's ridiculous. How do you import UV from one character to another? There's got to be a way or we wouldnt have V4 UVs on Genesis 1.

I'm sure it is in development but not available yet.

  • 3DUniverse have not been to keen on adding it to Texture converter publicly but we can always hope,

only other way is to make the other figure an autofitted wearable

  • What does "File>Save As>Support Asset>UV Asset(s)" do then? I wish there was more of a tutorial on this feature. I think this might be one way to get there if I knew a little more about it.

It has been stated several times that there is no automated way to apply the UV's other than the crude blender tutorial people have mentioned. the uv's are just too different.

  • Ok. Fine. But what if I wanted to do the UVs between earlier versions? Like say V4 to G2F or G2M? Is that even possible or is it the same problem as G3F?

V4 and Genesises 1 and 2 all have a uv layout with the major seam lines broken up roughly the same way (where the breaks for the different head, torso, and limb textures are). This means that in a program that uv maps like blender, or maya one can create uvs that for all three figures that roughly match, It is however, not a simple task.  Which is why there are Items for sale in the store selling matching uvs

Gen 3 features a fairly different uv setup which makes creating uvs that match impossible, while someone could conceivably write a a program that converts textures in a more streamlined fashion than the method in my blender tutorial it would be a lot of work, and at this point I wouldn't plan on one being created.

Save Uv assets allows one to save a custom uv set that has been imported into studio drom a program that can uv map so that an object can have multiple uvs.

In summary: sharing textures from v4 through gen2 is possible and there are uv sets at the store that enable one to do it easily (and technically one could do it ones self with good skill at uving). V4 through gen2 to gen3 is only possible through blender (or any other program that has texture projection), and is likely to remain so.

For V4 to G2F you'll need the 'V4.2 for Genesis 2 Female' product (the one which gives you the autofit clone too).

  • Dont have the funds to go that route at the moment. Was hoping I could learn how the UV asset thing worked and see if that was a viable option at least to get to G2F.

"save UV asset" is used to save a new UV you have loaded, like "save morph asset" is used after you've loaded a morph via morph loader. It doesn't handle the remap itself.

I really hope DAZ release a UV & morph conversion tool for G3 otherwise I'm not going to be investing much anymore in G3 items. The fact that we can bridge characters across previous generations is what has allowed me to develop interesting and fairly unique characters. Being stuck with just G3 characters and its gene pool is pretty limiting and a step backwards. If G3 were a significant step up in realism perhaps that might be forgivable but, based on releases so far, it's not a huge improvement on G2. While some of the G3 characters might be worth buying if they're trapped in their own smaller gene pool then I don't see the point.

Morph conversion will happen, D3D had said they would work on it once G3M is released.

Simply supplying V4 (or G2F) UVs for G3F as we had for Genesis or G2F can't be done for technical reasons. I certainly hope someone will release a texture converter to get around this.

  • Then I guess I'll just stick to Genesis then for the time being. I've been able to make clones for auto-fitting clothing. I have my characters that I use pretty much set and I can always backward engineer if they come out with a character I just have to have.

For my part, I really hope someone will make a program to convert V4/M4 textures on Genesis3Male/Female (and even M3D3/V3 on G3M/G3F). If you make some characters and use them in comics, you can't just change the texture and say "well, he/she get some darker skin and eyes" or he/she changed his/her iris. If you make two exact copies of G2M and put different textures on them, you have two totally different people. The textures are very important to make a character his/her personality, and especially the eyes. For me, the eyes are far along the most important part in the body. What's the point to make new figures with better bending and expressions if you can not apply the previous morphs and textures you bought. It means that all you bought get in the trash. What's point with that? So people will stop buying textures because they know that they won't be able to use them on the next Genesis generation. It's not a good strategy if you want to sell. For my part, I'm still using some D3/M3 textures on G2M because I made some characters when I had D3/M3. I can't remake my characters by changing his/her texture just like that. In real life, people change their age/body morphs but not their eye color (untill they're old). A lot of textures made on M4 and V4 are fantastic with really beautiful eye colors. It's a pity not to be able to use them on G3M/G3F. I was so happy when GenX came out. That made me choose DAZ Studio instead of Poser (I was a Poser user at the beginning). I really hope someone will make a texture converter like GenX (but with textures from different figure, even the old ones figures like D3/M3/V3/S3...). The one who succeeds in doing that will probably make money, I think.

I do believe the UVs for the eyes are close enough that the old v4 eye textures still work.

  • Just downloading now.... yes, I'd like to use my V4 textures too.. There are-(were) freeware tools made to do this... haven't seen in years (like 2012) but as Zbrush4 .. Win7.., quadcore systems DirectX11 and Daz Studio4 (Genesis) were just taking off .. there was a tool!! .... it would do bump and normal maps and everything ... might have had a size restriction ....

You can bake directly from V4 to G3F...but you need to make the 'prep' meshes yourself, if you don't have the shapes products.  Once you have the from/to meshes set up the bake process is pretty fast.  The long, tedious part is setting things up...and if once they are set up, you save a blend file of the setup (no textures assigned, except the blanks), you can convert any set in minutes...basically as long as it takes to load them and the bake precess to run.  I've got it down to under 5 minutes.

  • Texture transformer by blacksmith3d can transform V4 textures to G3 female. I own the program and it does a good job on skins but it is not perfect. On a side note you need a addon pack to do v4 to G3F but the program is on sale at renderosity. If you spring for the whole pro package it is also a 3D morph and paint program.

I use v4 textures on G1/G2 all the time I consider G3 USELESS for this and animation related reasons.

I actually also managed to transfer by vertex colour between the two using Ultimate Unwrap 3D to bake and Meshlab to swap but damned if I can figure out how to export separate maps from MeshLab, it just sticks them on top of each other in one image

Within the Generation 4 - Genesis 2 'space,' I've had good luck using Map Transfer to convert skins to Victoria 5 (which is generally useful with both Genesis and Genesis 2 figures).

This DOES require at least one set of UVs, I think (I think there's a V4 for Genesis UV thingie I picked up as a freebie at some point).

You might see if someone offering free Victoria 4 skins is willing to convert them to V5. If I was such a developer, I'd be happy to do so.

This is why I have stopped at Genesis 2 for my work, as I have a ton of Victoria 4 characters that I still use the morphs and textures from on Genesis 2 Female..  The only thing I bought for Genesis 3 were the head and body morphs pack and that was it, and with seeing how much of a rigmaroll it is to transfer previous generation textures to G3 has pretty much decided for me that Genesis 2 is as far as I will go..

    Maybe this will help?

As far as I know there is not any clone transfer for V4,G1, or G2 to G3 since they are mapped differently. This question has been asked before and "re-painting" the V4 texture onto a G3 map seems the only way.
