Love the postings! This is my attempt at a screen icon. Used the attached AI generated face portrait, tuned other body parameters, exported as a single morph that can be saved, and then even transferred to G8 if desired! More of an exercise using all the tools. Still trying to get a perfectly un-shadowed face out of the AI generator to get the best skin that FT2 can manage so far. Starting to play with some children next. TD

I love the aesthetic you've got going on with your renders. How are you achieving that?

Just installed a new version of Daz Studio Beta 4.22.1.99, so it was a time for a new test.

This time I have created Genesis 8 Female character and edited it with https://www.daz3d.com/1-click-pbrskin

Looks better to me and it does not have this reddish skin as usual.

I have applied to the hair one of the presets from https://www.daz3d.com/revolution--omni-shader-presets-for-strand-based-hairs

I don't like that Daz keeps the eyebrow, have to edit the textures manually to remove them. Also Facetransfer 2 keeps all the black around the eyes and it looks horrible. One would think this would be addressed? After editting this is how things look. At least with my work, I have got the best results by removing the black and eyebrows from the "D" and "SSS" texture naps. I am not really sure if Facetransfer 2 has very good resolution, verious features like eye shape and nose or lip features have to be manually adjusted if desired. I hope things improve someday.

I took advantage of the super discount and bought Face Transfer 2 and Face Transfer Shapes 2

How to use Face Transfer Shapes 2? Is this tool just a manual parameter adjustment?

After you install it, go to your account page and make sure the product is activated in Daz Studio.  It'll replace the previous Face Transfer pane.  Then find a picture with a neutral expression-straight at the camera, hair not obsctructing the face and with no smiles/frowns.  Think driver's license picture.  It'll load pretty effectively.  Not perfect but it's a huge upgrade to the first Face Transfer.

Yes the eyebrow thing drives me crazy, too.  They should load it with an eyebrow we can just delete and replace.  It's like a delicate game to find some that fit OVER the generated eyebrows that also fit what you want and it's frustrating.

Just for clarification, we don't need to enter a new serial number with the Face Transfer Shapes, do we?

Nope!  Just for face Transfer 2.

  • Since there's some new activity on this thread, thought I would throw this out there if anyone is interested.

In the course of the thread, I discuss not just FT2 but everything else I've tinkered with along the way.

I've played a little bit with Face Transfer 2 Shapes- they make a huge difference! I can't see using FT2 without the shapes; they make an amazing product even better. Not only that, they're so easy to use.

Yeah they help a lot.  For me, I use them to fine tune the transfer as, while it's good, not perfect and those little tweaks with the shapes help to get your look as close as possible.

  • My 2 cents ... Face Transfer 2 is vastly more usable without Face Transfer 2 Shapes than was the original Face Transfer without Face Transfer Shapes, but you definitely still want to use FT2 Shapes. It greatly improves the ear issue as well as the profile. It also offers several additional shaping options.

You can get some decent characters with Face Transfer 2 for sure. A change of material or skin can go a long way.

Good evening! Did anyone here stumble upon a sudden problem with FT2 when used on Genesis 9 (latest updated version) with DS 4.23? Recently I updated DS to 4.23, decided to test FT2 plugin, and encountered the very annoying problem. When I run this plugin with G9, I get constant crashes with an error message like "DAZStudio.exe caused ILLEGAL_INSTRUCTION in module "C:\Program Files\DAZ 3D\DAZStudio4\avatar_sdk_metaperson_daz3d.dll".  I have the latest update of Genesis 9, with all clothes and necessary presets, and I use the General Release of DS 4.23.0.1, not any beta build. The crash happens when this plugin reaches the stage of generating shapes and textures. Meanwhile, FT 1 works in DS 4.23.0.1 as flawlessly as before. What is this avatar_sdk_metaperson_daz3d.dll"?  Does the plugin need Windows 8 or 10 (I'm still loyal to Windows 7 x64), or maybe any specific CPU or GPU (Nvidia, Intel, etc, not AMD as mine)? When searching this forum, I have found mentions about similar problems but no reliable answer how to fix it. If you met with such an issue, what may be the matter?

Wondering if Artini has tried. I am still clinging to 4.22.

  • I'm probably not much help either. I did have issues with the plugin earlier this week but not like that. Studio was refusing to realize that I had a serial # for the plugin. I had to log out of my account and log back in for it finally not put the watermark on transfers.

Thanks, but it wasn't a lifehack in my case. I tested logging out and back but with no result. But I deciphered the moment of crash - every time it happens just when FT2 starts to write down new textures to DAZ Temp folder (C:\Users\Public\DAZ_Temp). When it makes first three texture plates for G9 eyes, the plugin stops and DS crashes immediately. Working with G8, the plugin creates textures very fast, but in another folder - C:\Users\Public\DAZ_Temp\Face Transfer\Generate. It looks like a lack of memory (RAM or GPU RAM) but I have a strong feeling that the plugin looks for a specific missing file in the runtime folder for G9 and cannot find it. I have no idea what this missing thing may be, because I installed all 3 latest packages for Starter Essentials, including even Toon content (I'm not sure, does FT2 need it really?). How much RAM should I have to use this plugin? Maybe there is something specific in the geometry of G9 itself, that is more complex than G8?

When saving the Face (while still in the trial), after the process is complete, the textures images disappear (base, normals, etc). This is not due to me re-opening the file, it happens after I generate the Face, then go to the Save Face and click save. Thoughts? Work arounds? I've already used two of my trial faces, and I have one left, and would like to see if it at least works before I upgrade from my older purchase of the original Face Transfer.

Well, hasn't been much activity on this posting in a while. I myself have been off playing with AI tools, decided to revisit FT2 with my additional experiences. Asked AI for a real world girl resembling a well known Animated Character (Snow). Imported to FT2 and FT2 shapes to tweak, changed out the eyes, tried matching the backgound and lighting to see if DAZ could get close to the AI image, results above. The attempt is what makes it fun!! TD
