The Myth of so "very few GPU memory for allocate textures"...agh!
It's amazing what some folks have stuffed into "limited memory." :)
From what I've read... Yes!
Based on what I read, I now replace every emmisive that isn't actually in the scene with standard DAZ lights. Apparently Iray must calculate the light for every surface (poly?) of the emmissive. I also read that point lights have the same "multi-surface" issue when placed inside an object, or something like that. I'm sorry I didn't bookmark the post. It was an eye-opening read.
I let my render run a little longer than expected, but the numbers aren't that much different..
with out Optix Prime: 2hours 20 min 429 itterations,,so ~3 samples per minute.
with optix prime : 3 hours 57 min and 854 itterations which is around 3.6 samples per minute.
the original is in png format and is 4.41MB that I opened in mspaint and saved as jpeg to reduce size.
the posted version is in jpg and is 784 KB
So,,,I am seeing a gain in CPU only mode using Optix Prime.
Finally got the GTX980 in the tower runs about same speed as my ROG laptop with 980M 12 minutes http://fav.me/d9b59fj

Last January, I conducted a lighting experiment to see how long it would take LuxRender v1.3.1 to render a high-resolution image full of reflections, transparencies, and other materials. I threw everything I could at it, and added a couple of figures to the scene for contrast. That experiment took 800 hours to render, and reach a level of quality I was happy with. Much of that time was spent waiting for the reflections in the windows and table to smooth out. By then, Lux had processed 30.10 kS/p. I had to post the raw, 9.28MB PNG to preserve the image quality. Otherwise, most of the texture detail in the reflections would've been lost. You can view it at the link below:

Now that I've switched to Iray, I couldn't resist duplicating the experiment. I deleted the scene file after posting the Reality version, so I had to recreate the scene, using the Reality version as a reference to get as close an approximation as I could to the original composition. I opted not to have Victoria looking at a cell phone this time.
I could not be happier to write that Iray rendered this 767KB JPG in just 5 hours, and it actually looks better than the Reality version.

Cool man Reality is taking back seat here too. LRP's Jamie 2 or 3 love using skin shaders & tweaking approx 25 mins *nudity* http://fav.me/d9b59et
Midori and Smacky vs Sharkman
Hi Folks! First post on this site actually.. Here is my first testing of the waters for Daz and iRay. Must say I am pleased (I have been using Octane, so this is a little bit of a learning curve.). I Do have a question about Instances. I am building a tree. Is it possible to build a branch for the tree with Instanced leaves, and then make Instances of the resulting branch with leaves group? Any pointers (or thread pointers) would be great!

Trying out some HDR lightsets. And a tip ( I refuse to say heads-up) that there are some very nice retro Japanese cars over at ShareCG at the moment. Cheers!

Pretty sure you can. You would need to build the limb and then the leaves and select the leaf to be instanced. Your going to need to move the leaves around to get them to the right place. Parent the new leaves to the first leaf and then that to the limb. Then would instance that set. The only things you really need to keep in mind is that they will all share the same textures.
In honor of tonight's moon.
I was up at 1.00 - 1.30 Am to see that moon and it was White, man I was disappointed. :)
He's clearly intimidated by her muscles.
Cheers,
Alex.
Very nice render.
I ran out about 11 pm EDT and snapped that photo of the moon. It didn't look quite that red to the naked eye, but the camera exposure enhanced it, I guess. I didn't edit it to make it redder.
My wife told me 1 am BST(GMT+1) but after lookiing online that is when it supposed to start so it probably went red around 4AM.
I think that makes sense. According to an online converter, 11pm EDT corresponds to 4am BST.
oh sorry I forgot to say nice photo..so hey nice photo. LOL
Looked good from my patio door clear here Richmond BC Canada
go on rub it in. LOL
LMAO
Sorry about that looked good here in the Texas Rio Grande Valley also
LOL I am not playing anymore. :P
Hahahaha! good one!
I stayed up to watch, and the moon stayed white until after it reached the point where it was totally obscured by shadow at around 3.50 am UK time, but was red once it began to emerge. It was well worth watching, I thought.
'Staying up' to see it wasn't really much of an effort as it's not unusual for me to still be awake at that time anyway, but in a real departure from the norm I did get up at 5.00 am on Saturday morning (only because I had to!) and was surprised to be rewarded a bit later on by the most spectacular sunrise I've ever seen. The sun and the moon have both shown their very best to me over the weekend, and I feel kind of privileged by that.
Back on the topic of Iray, I sometimes wonder why Daz bother trumpeting how realistic the results can be if they're going to have stuff like female pirates flaunting their knicker gussets to all and sundry with reckless abandon in a way that's about as historically accurate as having a flat screen TV in an Old West log cabin. Another topic, really, I know, but the pursuit of realism isn't easy round here whatever the render engine.
Conclusive proof I suppose that being blessed by the cosmos doesn't stop the occasional fit of grumpiness!
@dclane "trumpeting how realistic"
I would suggest that there is a context involved. For instance your implied definition of realistic would be true of a cartoon if the outfit was historically accurate. The context for realistic in most of the discussions and renders here is that the figures themselves look convincing. Recognize that convincing is subjective and in the eye of the beholder. People are typically willing to suspend disbelif as long as the story, scene, etc is internally consistent. Remember also that most of these same examples are "fantasy" in that they deal with improbable elements or stories.
witness the many discussions about female srmor and high heels.
nevertheless, Studio is capable of producing a very convincing image. It is up to the artist to decide how "accurate" that image would be.
in short, i don't personally see what exposed pirate knickers has to do with realism. Does the character look real (e.g. Closer to a photo than a cartoon). Do the knickers look like real clothing rather than a child's drawing? If do, I call it real, having never seen actual pirates wearing actual knickers.
I've never seen in all this 9 years being a 3Dazer when Daz Productions had claimed such task, and never claimed if some product is "Historical Accurate costume model", uh?
Karate Girl fan art.
