Impossible to install Daz 4.8

I've been away from Daz for a few years for various reasons, but now I'm trying to get a fresh start on a fresh PC (the last version I used was 3.something on a XP computer).

I'm now running Windows 10 Home 64 bits. 

I successfully installed Daz Install Manager 1.1.0.41 and I have 1304 products ready to install (I never cancelled my PC membership so things kind of stacked up over the years).

The problem is I tried to install "DAZ Studio 4.8 (Win 64-bit)" (sounds like the first step to take) and I got an "Install failed". Here is the log:

I've noticed earlier in the log the message "Error connecting to CMS" so I searched for "CMS" in the products list and tried to install "PostgreSQL CMS (Win 64-bit)" but it didn't work either:

Install Queue finished in 0 min 1.7 sec.

I did notice a few suspect things in the log:

  • The application thinks I'm using Windows 8 instead of Windows 10
  • The application thinks my platform is 32 bits (I'm pretty sure it's not)
  • The application thinks my PC has 4GB of ram instead of 16GB
  • a few of my products are listed with an invalid tag _CA_


I don't know if those are related to my issue but I have no idea where to go next...
Any advice is welcome!

    Where are you seeing that it thinks you have a 32 bit OS? DIM is 32 bit, but it appears to have correctly identified your system as 64 bit.

    What security software are you using? Are you using an admin account?

    The second line of the log says "Platform bits: 32" and the quantity of RAM detected is suspiciously close to 4GB which is the maximum amount you can have on a 32 bits system.
    But I may be wrong about this; it's just a guess based on what I can see.

    I'm just using Windows Defender as an anti-virus for the moment.

    I'm using a local administrator account.

     

    Following your last question though, I tried to use the "Run as Administrator" option on "Daz Install Manager" and I was able to install "Daz Studio 4.8" (thanks ;) )

    I do have a last couple of questions however:

    • Should I install the CMS too? (I kind of remember it was necessary with Daz 4.0, but that was a long time ago)
    • Are there any other products I should install first before trying to reinstall my assets a few at a time?

    EDIT: I tried to launch it and if it seems to work, I cannot see any default content at all (including Genesis characters; are they available separately?)
    Perhaps my two questions should just be "Is there a "101 starting guide" somewhere that I should read? 

     

    ANOTHER EDIT: It seems from the log from Daz Studio 4.8 that the CMS is not running... That would explain why I don't see any product... can it?

    Also I find an article about the Postgres CMS; Would installing this fix the issue or would it make a bigger mess? (FWIW, this is a "clean install" on a new PC; I have not creating anything yet so "wiping everything/restarting from scratch" is an option is it helps.

    Yes, you should isntall PostgreSQL as that is used by several functions in DS - you can just about get by without, but it isn't recommended or supported as far as I know.

    The content is separate - a Starter Essentials pacakge for each Genesis plus the default Lights and Shaders.

    The log also says OS bits: 64. I assume platform is DIM, which is always 32 bits (since it doesn't handle enough data at one time to need more).

    OK, it starts looking like something useable :o) Thanks

    I installed the default lights and shaders, and the Genesis Starter Essentials I found. There is just a small issue: I found the following packages :

    • Genesis Starter Essentials
    • Genesis 2 Male Starter Essentials
    • Genesis 2 Female Starter Essentials
    • Genesis 3 Female Starter Essentials

    But there seems to be no trace of "Genesis 3 Male Starter essential"; I tried to re-buy the "Genesis 3 Starter Essentials", but the "Male version" is still not showing up; Am I missing something?

    (I also have the "PoserCF" counterparts for Genesis and Genesis 2 packages, but I assumed I don't need to use them untill I start using Poser)

    having made a few error  how do i change the software to factory default i have try it and it is not working

    What aspects do you need to reset?

    Edit > Preferences > Interface

    Window > Workspace > Customize
