Info models usage

Hi guys,

i'm new here, and need some help. I'm working in a project with my team, it's a videogame, but I don understand if I can use and in case how to use Daz models.

Few questions:

1) free models inside the basic library of Daz3d pro, are usable in a project, or they need a royalty or something else?

2) if I buy a model from Daz marketplace, I need to pay something else or it's already usable without problems?

i need informations about this topic, thank you.

All the Daz models are usable both commercially and for private, not for profit use...with very few exceptions.  One of those exceptions is any use where the actual mesh is redistributed.  That is not allowed.  But all still or animated renders are allowed with no additional lisence/fees. In game use does have an extra license that can be purchased that will cover Daz Originals (some other vendors have separate licenses for this, too).

There are also a couple of older sets that don't allow commercial usage...but only one or two and they should specifically say so.  This is one http://www.daz3d.com/anna-marie-goddard-digital-clone

    Greetings,

    1) and 2) are the same; if you use the _mesh_ of a model (i.e. you're using a program that displays 3D objects and you're using DAZ's mesh) you need to purchase an Indie or Commercial game developer license depending on your TOTAL income, not just the income of the game you're developing.

If you render 2D sprites of your character (or objects), and use those in-game as pre-rendered images, then you don't need any kind of license, that use is covered under DAZ's existing license, for DAZ Original and any other artist who sells on this site.

The above linked Game Developer Licenses only cover DAZ Original 3D content, however.  If you are buying something from the store that does not have DAZ Original as its Artist, then you need to purchase a Game Developer license from that artist.  Not all artists allow it, so not all artists have that license available.

The bulk of licenseable content is under DAZ Originals, however.  I know it sounds like a lot of work to make sure it's all set up right (and it can be expensive), but this is not a subject to be careless about, making sure you have the right licenses is critical in anything you build.

  • Thank you for everything

  • You have to distinguish the models (the 3d structures within the program) from images mage from the models (your post-render creations).

As I understand it, you don't need to buy a license to use your 2D renders. You do have to buy the license if you want to export the 3D models and use them in another environment. The form and structure of the model (the fully rigged 3D model) is entirely the intellectual property of Daz.

  • Do you need any additional license beyond 1.0 to use commercially (rig development) the rig model of a G3F model?

I mean just using the skeleton model (bones, joints and hierarchy) and the skin attachments but not the mesh geometry/topology of the G3F model from where it was extrracted. The specific use will be using it as departing point to rig meshes obtained from body scans.

    Thanks in advance!

Yes, that is still a derivative of the Daz figure and so needs the same licensing as the mesh.
