The Truth About PBR Environments

I love PBR environments. All of the advancements, the standardization that the industry is hopefully moving towards which should allow more integrated workflows with disparate toolsets. There's lots to love about the movement. However...
With any 'movement' it's easy to get overly religious about it's application. FStoppers put up a video on lighting which happens to address this issue very well (not the reason they put it up, but it works on many fronts.) It's a video on lighting, which in video, photography or 3D art is at the heart of the image. And... there is a lot of stress by some to get just the right effect with just the lights one would find 'in the real world.' Well that's great! But, here's a real world example of lighting by professionals to create the effect they want. Note, it's not simply moonlight and a chandelier, in fact it looks like they're outright cheating with that specular effect (in the breakfast scene) with a glass off camera.
Remember, people don't want reality, that's right outside the door... people want reality+.
I wonder why she had so many bottles of milk.
