Saving 2 objects as a Prop Asset?

I have to sphere primatives...one parented to another...I would like to save them as a smart prop.

So far, I've only been able to save the "Parent" sphere as a prop asset, rather than both of them as a prop asset.

Is there a setting I missed?

Any item can have only one parent. 2 spheres would be 2 prop files. If parented to something when a save is made, can be saved as a smart prop. Child could only be saved after parent is saved AFAIK.

If it could be that the 2 items should be "one", in Hexagon name both of the props the very same and export them out as .obj files. Import that into D/S and hopefully it will be one item. Check mats and uvs. Usually works but now and then nope.

For that you want to use "File > Save As > Support Asset > Scene Asset(s)", it will save the items in the scene out as individual DUF/DSF files but will also save a DUF of the scene which will allow you to load both back in as they were.

Thans for the reply... if I understand, Prop Assets can only be one item?

My "prop" is a small sphere inside a bigger sphere. The small sphere is parented to the large sphere.  The large sphere get's parented to a whatever, so set as a smart prop.

So I can make 2 prop assets, 1 of each sphere,?

(The export as object doesn't work. It can't be a solid thing..it needs to be two different spheres, so you can scale the interior seperate from the outer.)

This doesn't sound like I would end up with a smart prop made of the 2 spheres, but rather a scene with the 2 speheres and the object the outer sphere is parented to?

    Did it!!! :-)

I took the long route but it works. End result was a smart prop figure which has 2 spheres, one inside the other, each moveable on its own. Made a [sound of clearing throat] few images for the workflow. I can glue them into a .pdf file to upload possibly in a few days.

In a nutshell the long route involves first making a .cr2 file. Then converting that. Position and parent, save as.

Edit to add: This "it needs to be two different spheres, so you can scale the interior seperate from the outer." it CAN do.

Here a thought (I havent tried this yet) but what if you parented the smaller sphere to the larger oneand placed that where you want it to show up in the scene , and then tried save as a figure ......

That's what I did..so far it only grabs the outer sphere:(

I'll look forward to seeing it....I just have to have a little....patience? :)

hahaha ... love that image! thanks.

Here you go ... I also threw in some other "how to" info to answer a few other questions people have been posing. So collectively it covers a little for modeling [I use Hexagon], creating a .cr2, creating a triax .duf from that .cr2, touching on a few other ideas too.

Over at DA.  Making a Not Simple Prop Figure

"simple" "not simple", some terms that came up in error messages, the props are simple IMHO.

Hmm..not sure how triax figures into it, as that seems to be the bane of my existince in my various prop/clothes conversion from v4 threads...so it'll be an interesting read.

(guess Hexagon goes back on the new system:) )

Well you said you wanted a "smart prop". D/S doesn't make poser props [not without some script help anyway].

A "simple" prop would be "solid".

For 2 parts one needs rigging ... rigging choices are legacy or triax.

Did I use the wrong term? I don't do Poser.

A smart prop, as in, you select an item, then load the prop, and it loads to the right place on the object.

There's an option in the save as prop asset for smart parenting....?
