Redeeming Gift Card - Is It Supposed To Just

I haven't used Gift Cards much since the store switchover, so this might have been going on for a while and I just didn't notice. I just bought a good amount that should keep me going for a bit through the upcoming sale. The e-mail with the code arrived nice and promptly, I entered the code, hit the "redeem" button, and

...

Suddenly!

Nothing happened, except the code I'd entered vanished. I tried the "check status and balance" button... same thing, nothing happened. I had to go into my Account page then on to Store Credit to see that the card had in fact been redeemed properly.

Now, I've been a regular at DAZ for a long time, so I know what a pile of dingo's kidneys the Magento store software is. I also know my way around the various bits and pieces of the store functions. I'd hate to try to do this as a newcomer, with no idea what to expect. Has anyone managed to get that Gift Card procedure to work in a clear and obvious way? As it is now, it's a "money thrown away" complaint just waiting to happen.

    When you redeem a gift card it turns into store credit, that is the way it is meant to work.  Store credit can then be used just like money.

    I think the concern is that there's no feedback.  Typically, especially when something involving money is going on, you expect some feedback.  A little text div saying, 'Gift Card Redeemed; click <here> to see your store credit balance.' would resolve it.

    Precisely. Even worse, it's a "click here" that does absolutely nothing. There's no direct link to the Store Credit page, there's no notice that the click on the "redeem" button was detected...

    Just nothing.

    Been poorly executed for years so apparently they dont have it as a priority. On the product page of the Gift Certificate, it would take what, twenty seconds to type "You will be sent a Redeem This Card" link. Once clicked, this amount will appear as a Store Credit option in your cart."

    Hmm, bought one a minute ago and the Redeem Gift Card clickable button works, but Spotted Kitty is correct,  the Check Status and Balance does NOTHING, not even after clicking the Redeem button.
