Opinions sought, Animating Daz characters in C4D

June 2023 in Cinema 4D Discussion

Hello

for those that use C4D for animating Daz characters only, (no props, scenes), I'd just like users opinion is it any good please? Most of my animations are going to be short gymnastic scenes - lots of limb bendings

After banging on in Blender for months, Im just beginning to master it and will continue with it. But requires lots of workarounds and methods, so I'm just wondering if C4D would be easier to use once mastered to get the same results

As much as I love C4D, I wouldn't say that character animation is one of its strengths. I've been using Cascadeur to animate an imported figure, then applying that animation in C4D with the Character Definition tag. Houdini does have more robust animation tools, but it's a bit of a climb to learn how to use it. I keep saying I'm going to make tutorials for using Daz figures in Houdini, so one of these days I'll actually do it.

Houdini was something on my radar, I may now have a serious look at it, dont mind the learning curve - been round the block with blender. Thanks for the reply

Imagine everything you do in Blender was like putting shaders together. That's Houdini. It's entirely node-based.

I'd like to do the animation work in DAZ rather. There are awesome scripts or plugins for DAZ animation (recommend 3D UNIVERSE STUDIO'S scripts) and the final work will be more natural than C4D. But I'll finish the animating part first then export the model in Alembic format, import it to C4D and fix some specific details, like jinggle, collides etc.
