Custom Morph Freebie and the EULA Query

Let's say I've created a character preset using Growing Up for Genesis and Genesis Evolution Head morphs, and then I further sculpted the facial features in third party software.  So far as I'm aware, no morphs specific to other characters by DAZ or PA's have been used since the figure is built directly on the default Genesis mesh.  If I create a character morph/preset based on the above conditions, can I give it away as a freebie without violating the EULA?

The reason I'm asking:  http://docs.daz3d.com/doku.php/public/software/dazstudio/4/userguide/creating_content/packaging/tutorials/saving_morphs/start#dialed_or_combination_morphs

moving to the commons as it is a query about morphing and not an offer of a freebie morph (yet)

  • You may not distribute the components contributed by the Growinfg Up and Head Morph sets - what you should do is use reverse deformations on Morph Loader Pro to strip out the DAZ/Zev0 parts leaving only your own sculpted changes, then distribute the morph asset for that applied with a preset that also sets the needed values for the Growing Up and head Morphs sets.

From my side, you can give away a preset where the user requires the Growing up morphs in order to work. You may not bake the product morphs onto your character where the product is not required and distribute that, or distribute the products morphs in any way.

Ok, thanks for that clarification.  Still trying to figure out the technical details at the moment.  Thus, as I understand it now, anyone who would apply my morph would also need to own these products in order to get the intended results.  That makes sense.

Yes. Think of it like V4. If somebody made a figure that used V4 morph++ morph dials, that would be a requirement in order for the character to load correctly. Same thing applies to Genesis. The Genesis body or head morphs are listed as requirements if those are used to create the figure. You can also add in your own custom morph in combination with other morph package morphs, but only your morph may be distributed. Users would require the other morph packages if they are part of your figures shape or character preset.

  • Thank you, Zev0!  Excellent explanation.  I am just learning the technical aspects of creating my own preset and wasn't familiar with the reverse deformation feature in Morph Loader Pro that Richard mentioned.  I'm beginning to understand a bit more how the shapes get built on top of each other and wanted to share my work for constructive criticism.  At the same time, I wanted to be absolutely clear I wasn't violating any intellectual property rights in the process.  Now I've got a much better handle on what exactly I need to do and why.  I really appreciate it!
