is there a way to edit dforce fur?

I am trying to make a character that has fur in only certain areas, but it doesn't look quite right using strand based hair, so I was hoping to use already premade fur from the manticore and remove the parts of the hair i don't want.

but I cannot figure out how to do that if it's possible at all.

Is there a way?

If you go into the scene pane and drill down into the fur, you can hide specific body parts of the fur. (hip, abdomen, parts of the arms, etc)

What about using the geometry editor and assigning areas to newly created dummy material that can be hidden with Cutout Opacity?
