  • Ran a "fschck" type operation to assure that the filesystem files & folders were all properly linked and accounted for, and that there were no weak recording spots on the disk.

I recommend Spinrite for that.  It can save a drive and maybe even your life.  You can get it from Steve Gibson's site.  Google "spinrite", "Steve Gibson", "Gibson Research", or "GRC".  It's not free but it's worth every penny.  And he writes all his code in assembler, so it's fast and efficient.

It did report finding some free sectors marked allocated and said that I could find file fragments in the "found" folder.  I could find no "found" folder.

Yeah, all that doesn't really mean much now with NTFS.  Again, Spinrite for checking hard drive media.  It works on SSDs too.

So, I'm not exactly sure the system is at 100%...

Spinrite can bring you to 100% certainty, and will tell you how bad things really are with the drive.

...but after I reinstalled the hard drive and booted, it came up OK.  It has since performed another MS update cycle and still works OK, so maybe definitely...

Fixed it for you (if you use Spinrite).

...I can get back to work and make another set of backup archives.

Backups are always a good idea.  smiley

    * I don't have any financial interest in Spinrite.  I swear by it and can honestly say that if you have a failing hard drive and you DON'T use Spinrite, then you haven't done everything possible to save your data.  No matter what else you tried.

    Good luck!

I haven't seen the movie(s), but I have seen them in commercials and stuff.  I have to say, they are cute and funny!

apparently there is.    I told my goldfish to make my bed but they did not so I better go make my own bed.

You are better off that way, one- goldfish are terrible at hospital corners, two- they would have to flood the room first.

Sounds interesting and I went to his website and watched the videos and was impressed with the technology but the website seems to not mention anything newer than WindowsXP.  I realize that NTFS has been used since XP and in Vista, Win7, Win8 and now Win10 but what about the product itself?  Does it run standalone or does it run under the OS? And if under the OS are there any problems running under modern OS's?

$89 is something I need to make a budget for.

Complaint: I wish I had money to buy Mary Janes and Socks for Genesis 2 Female(s).  I also wish I had money to buy real Mary Jane shoes and ruffle socks for myself.

edit: nevermind, I bought the shoes for Genesis 2 when they were on sale.  I forgot that I bought them.  Now I just need to save some money to buy the real shoes.

I'm sorry to say I have never seen him in anything.  Looking at the listing of his work, I'll have to remedy that.

Was lucky enough to encounter him a few times, not enough. Still love to sneak into theatres to watch rehearsals when I can, he was an enormous talent - his Merchant of Venice is worth a look if you can find some video, he does a clawing at his heart thing that is teh awesome :)

runs from a bootable disk you got to remember to change the BIOS to IDE mode as if you were using an IDE to SATA adaptor, used to be money back guarantee back in the day, might still be that way :)

I may have seen a couple of those.  I know I saw Help! but I don't remember it that well, except that there were some strange people trying to steal Ringo's ring.  It's been many years.  I should try to find it and watch it again.  Their movies were fun!
