I've been out of the loop for a while - I used to like making my own textures though.
I was wondering how you do this now. I see all my G3 textures are in DSON format.
How would I go about making my own textures as I don't see any UV maps or anything like that.
Thank you.

usuually you start with UV guides. Do you have UV guides for the figure you want to make textures for. What UV set do you want to make textures for? I think the Base G3F did get community guides created...I would probably stick with G3 Base to keep it compatible.
What tools do you paln to use? Or do you need some tips on that. You will get lots of feedback on that :)
Hey, thanks for your reply :)
Sorry I should have been clearer. I mean making textures for clothes.
The way I used to do it was either with UV maps or just by usng the original textures as templates.
I mainly use Photoshop Elements but also have full Photoshop.
Usually I use actual photos of fabrics and mix and blend them. I use FilterForge too sometimes when modelling - I think I could use it here for nice textures.
Currently I'd like to make texutes for this product : http://www.daz3d.com/red-talon-textures
The templates for products, if available will be found in your product library.
Either the templates found in the product library - or export the obj from DazStudio to extract the UV - or find the textures in the Runtime\Textures folder ...
I didn't think to export the OBJ - thanks.
The textures are there but in DSON format - so I don't know how to use them directly.
Once I've made a texture how would I go about turning it into a preset ?
so once you apply the texture to the clothing manually, you can save it as a material preset. Something like File save as material preset I think.
OK thanks, I'll have a play with this today.
This is a fascinating thread. I could learn a lot here.
Thanks much..... :)
It is :)
I've found my Photoshop skills need improving to match the store quality. I'll have to star with something simple !
Anyone seen any tutorials for making clothing textures ?
I don't think specifically I've seen that. Instead you may look for some tutorials on general texture making but not specifically for daz/poser props. Great thing about 2D skills is they can be applied for different reasons/projects.
However I would not be surprised if there are tutorials just talking about Daz/poser stuff, but if you get a general understanding of the tools and learn some techniques those would work fine :)
It's one of those skills you keep adding to over time. So you may start with one type of fabric and over time learn more. I would just search the web for photoshop texturing tutorials and find one to get started. What do you want to make? Leather, cotton, something wet, etc etc. Then learn how to make stuff look aged or dirty. Lots of ways to go about it.
A bit dated, because I used the MFD as a sample, but there is a basic texturing tutorial on my site Here
Thanks for the advice Lars - I'll have a dig around.
I have made textures for older clothing, mainly things like leather and cloths with some details. I need to work out how to do hems and stitching.
I'll start making some textures for the basics clothing, something small and simple.
Chohole, thank you - I will study that
