Hi guys. Just purchased Daz original product "Elite Human Surface Shader" and I can't find it anywhere. It does not show up in my product library anywhere. Anyone help me out? Thanks

I see it in my library. Search for Human.

They still sell this? You know this is for 3Delight right? And the reason I ask why they still sell this is not related Iray or anything, but for some reason I thought the Elite Human Surface shader was replaced by UberSuface 2 or something...I could be totally wrong though. I know Some older products still use the Elite Human Surface shader..

been about 3 years since I used uber surface. almost.

It's part of at least one bundle...

And yes, it's the predecessor of UberSurface (the single layer version that came out BEFORE US2).

Darn it. I didn't know it was the Omnifreaker product, which I usually use already. Damn it, I just bought something I already had. Grrrrrrr.

BTW I still render in 3delight. I have searched and searched for a sicinct simple list of settings to make I ray work, I can not find any. Every time I try a tutorial on it my eyes glaze over, it is way over my head. I just want to know which dail I set where for an indoor or outdoor render. Also, I have a good, expensive Athleon card and I dont want to switch to Nvidea. (I know you can still burden your CPU without Nvidea, but gosh, it takes too long to render.) My machine has 16G ram, a PC, and is stripped of other programs and just devoted to rendering. but I can't make sense of I ray and I don't want to wait for hours just to get a grainy render. When I render in 3delight I turn the setting way up, typical renders take abuot 10 miutes and I am very happy with the result.

Please feel free to comment on this. And if someone has published a simple list of Iray settings I sure love to find it. I would buy it.

    Thanks

    Greetings,

@Mike Hunt - IIRC my first refund request here was actually the 'Elite Human Surface Shader', back in 2012. :)  I thought I needed it; turns out it's built in.

I recommend you go get yourself some store credit, via the refund process...

thanks for the clarification. I have it from 3 bundles myself now that you say it.

If you have given it an earnest try, then maybe Iray is not for you. Maybe not right now, maybe later. 3DL is a good rendering option. Lots you can do with 3DL, no need to toss it out. Maybe dabble with Iray when you are bored.

Oh gosh. I just chased them for a $50 refund for a coupon they didn't honor, they finally consented to giving me $50.00 credit just this morning. Now I have to chase them for product #2 the same day.

I like Daz, I like these Forums, but the Daz business model is dumb.sad

They might consider removing that item from the store, I can't imagine it sells much these days anyway. People should have moved past DS 3.1, though I know at least one person is going to tell me why they haven't upgraded and still visit the forums. wink

Anyone got ideas for what skin shader work well with 3delight? Some Daz figures seem to work well no 'right out of the box' while others really need shaders. I am loooking for photo realism without it getting into complicated rocket science...lol

Just remember that while a shader may be great, characters/material presets typically have their own special settings for that character.

So for a long time Human Surface was used, but Marie might have had different settings than Katie. Also the best settings could depend on your lighting...

My suggestion is to try a few character presets and find one you like. Then you could try using those settings on other characters. You can apply just a material presets settings while leaving the textures alone. If you apply the preset and control click on the pop up, for Images change to IGNORE.

I used to like using the Elite Characters and their presets.

BTW, what generation of figure are you using. That might help people make a suggestion.

I find it a little odd that Iray seems like it has a lot of settings to tweak, when my experience with 3DL was that it was like trying two chainsaws, a wet cat, and three eggs to get lighting and surfaces and shadows and environment light and ambient light and... ugh.

Bill, in one of the forums there is a good list of fsetting for 3delight, the author give you 'draft', 'normal' 'high' 'very high' and 'insane high' options. But that makes it simple. For some frustrating reason such a list for Iray is nowhere to be found. And don't waste your money on the I ray toolbox product; it says it has presets, it does not.I bought it oan only used it once. You can search the forum here for the 3 delight settings.

lars, I use everything from V3 to V7. The V7 renders great 'right out of the box'. It is the other ones that need tweaking, and you are quite correct that each charecter is a bit different. I often use the SSS product, or good ol' Omnifreaker.
