Poser crashing and giving me weird errors

Poser has been working relatively okay until the last few days when I started getting this error:

A similar issue happens on Skype

It has been fine until I uninstalled McAfe a few days ago and ran CC Cleaner (not the registry part) so I started having this error

I had my library internal but I made it external and now the error has stopped but now it's crashing every few minutes.

It gives me the typical

Poser has stopped responding and then closes.

I am sure I probably have IE11 on here because this is a new Windows 8.1 comp that was just set up a month ago

but I can't find out how to uninstall it

I disabled it a long time ago thinking that would help with sporadic crashes but now it is way worse.

as my sig says I'm using PP2014

edit:

here's the error code from the log viewer

Faulting application name: PoserPro.exe, version: 10.0.4.27796, time stamp: 0x53d9b4ab
Faulting module name: ntdll.dll, version: 6.3.9600.17936, time stamp: 0x55a68e0c
Exception code: 0xc0000374

Right Click the start button, and select Control panel.Go to Programs>Programs and Features. On the left side, click "Turn Windows Features on or off".A popup menu will list your available features.Scroll down the list and unchech the box for IE11.That should take care of that part.I don't use Poser so I won't be of much help with that part.

I already have the IE11 turned off

    yet it still crashes.

I googled a bit for your exception code.It appears to be MS code for a heap corruption. There is a thread over at runtimedna , well several actually, for this same thing.Ffrom what I can tell,,this can be caused by many different things. Most common is a badly behaving driver. Some others are reporting plugin updates are causing it.If Poser was working well for you , and this just started happening , I would look over any updates to graphics card drivers or plugins that have been installed recently.

I take it you've already tried to uninstall then reinstall Adobe Flash? That might put some files back that got taken away.

It could be it's not yet too late to do a System Restore. Hopefully CC Cleaner created a restore point for you; otherwise you'll have to use whatever Windows made for you during the normal running of things. You can always do the restore, and if it doesn't help things, return to the current point.

10.0.4 is earlier than my version of Poser 2014, though I'm not sure if that's only because of the GameDev version. Be sure to be updated. Back in the Poser 9 days, something similar happened in an IE upodate, and it took Smith Micro to fix it with a program update -- which they did fairly quickly. That one affected the fakakta (nice Yiddish term for screwed up) Flash interfacre, too.

All this said, I still cannot fathom why Smith Micro continues to use a Flash plugin for their main content navigator. That's so ... so 2006.

As dumb as it soudns I haven't uninstalled Flash...

I accidentally uninstalled it once and it messed up my whole comp but this was way back in the day, so I'm leery to uninstall it.

I've got a bunch of out of date drivers apparently, but would any of these cause them?

I'm always scared to update drivers because I'm scared I'm gonna mess something up...

Here's my evidently out of date drivers as told to me by Driver Booster

    .

How long have you been using that Driver Booster?

I looked that one up. I don't think it's wise to use that program. You really don't need it.

I literally just installed it today

I just want to make sure all my drivers are up to date but I' mafraid to screw with them

Was Poser working before you installed the booster? If so, uninstall the booster and see if that works.

Tobor mentioned that poser uses flash, maybe your flash plugin needs to be updated. You should download that from adobe website, and not any where else.

No, I downloaded Booster just a few hours ago

But Poser started crashing before then.

I did update Adobe Flash but it still gave me the same issue

So far I haven't actually had that bizarre popup but it's not been showing up since i made the library external

but making the library external for some reason started crashing poser

i didn't know if they were related or not.

Be sure to update the right version of Flash -- or do both. One is an ActiveX control, the other is an add-in. I don't recall which one Poser uses, but Poser won't run if you don't have it.

I would recommend uninstalling Flash first, then reinstall. That way you're sure to get all the files. The update may not include all files. As long as you properly reinstall it, your apps that depend on it, including Poser, should be fine.

But even so, updating Flash didn't fix the Poser 9 problem, and it may not here. It had to do with an IE update. Rolling back the update fixed it temporarily; a hotfix from Smith Micro handled it permanently. Given this history of its troubles, I'm frankly surprised Poser retained this stupid thing for 10/2014.

You don't need to update drivers unless they're giving you trouble, or you know an update provides an enhancement you want. Otherwise you;'re asking for trouble.

You might want to try doing a system restore. I would start with the restore point with your last updates and see if that helps, sometimes rolling back your system to a point to when everything was working , will fix  errors like your having. that is what I would do first  if i was having this kind of trouble.

and  BTW Adobe has a new Update for flash that came out yesturday. its version 18  you might try updating flash. but if poser has been working up until you did your updates. I would do a system restore. if that does not fix your problem them you can always  undo the system restore and put it back to the way you have it now. and kep trouble shooting.  but i always do the easiest things first.

Actually, it's not Poser creating the problem-- it's specific to Skype.

The flash control in question is the one Skype uses to serve ads, and if it doesn't get the resources it wants that ten seconds, then it takes them whether they're in use or not-- which the log viewer would see as the affected application causing the problem and not Skype.

Truth be told, nearly anything that serves ads with Flash can cause this particular issue. Some ad-based torrent clients, for example. But this one is Skype. Try shutting skype down and using Poser.

Just for the record, Poser hasn't used more recently than Poser 6-- all versions after that use Adobe Air for whatever reason.

I get the same issue occasionally, and I don't use Poser, I use Studio these days.

  • ToborTobor Posts: 2,300

Adobe Air is just a runtime environment for Flash. Sort of like an application builder. Without Flash, there's no Air.

Poser's content library panel is anemic and slow, and one of the most limiting features of the program. There's no reason to keep it, other than saving a buck on avoiding new development using something more robust.

And yes, I'm a long-time Poser user, and still crank it up now and then.

  • DarkSpartanDarkSpartan Posts: 1,096

I stand corrected. However, every time I've seen that error, it's associated with an ad that's built into some application or another.

  • ToborTobor Posts: 2,300

On the ad thing -- do you think such ads contain malware? There are still people who try to do that.

  • DarkSpartanDarkSpartan Posts: 1,096

It's possible, but unlikely. Ad Choices (the folks that run the skype ads) have a fairly good reputation, and deliberate passing of Malware would lose them Microsoft as a client-- which would be Very Bad.
