Do I 'NEED' 4.8 to use V7?

I really do not want to upgrade to 4.8 yet (It caused a lot of problems when I tried the first time and I luckily still had 4.7 on my old laptop and switched back). But Daz just offered my a $50 coupon for Daz originals if I buy V7 or Eva7 or Bethany 7 (what's the difference, by the way? Are they just character sets that I still need to buy V7? Or is it like Michael vs David or Hiro?)

DISCLAIMER: I don't actually have any of these ...7 characters, so you may want to wait for someone else to come along before spending money, but...
I DO know that they are to V7 as Gia6/Olympia6/Girl6 and the rest are to V6 or Stephanie 5/Aiko 5 etc are to V5 - i.e. they will not require V7 to work, you just need to have installed the Genesis 3 Female Starter Essentials.
I still run DS 4.6 and G3F base works fine on that. The store pages for V7, Eva 7 and Bethany 7 says they all have 3Delight as well as Iray skin settings, so I should think they should work OK in DS4.7. But like I said, I've only tried the Base, not the characters.
ETA: I wish they'd offer me a $50 coupon!
Incidentally, I have both DS4.6 and also the most recent DS4.8 Beta installed - I find they run alongside each other just fine (though I never have them both open at the same time) This allows me to use some of the plugins that may or may not work in DS4.8, but still have access to Iray, etc. Have you considered doing that?
i haven't bought the g3f morphs++, head, body, expressions still have the new sticker,
so i'm guessing the coupie won't work on the morph packs?
I'm clueless, lol. I am still a v4 girl. v7 is the first genesis character I've thought actually looked like she had bones under her skin. Never made the switch due to the 'plastic man' doll/prosthetic look. So I'll see how much the Genesis 3 Female Starter Essentials are going to cost me as well.
I have bought other genesis items that are lower in cost just I can take advantage of a sale or coupon for non-genesis stuff. So even if I don't use her, spending $22 for a $50 coupon may be worth it anyway.
It appears I already have Genesis 3 essentials in my product library from when I made my previous attempt and upgrading to 4.8. so at least I wouldn't need to pay for anything other than v7. That's a plus. Now to re-install gen 3 essentials and see if it opens in 4.7 ... lol.
There are some things that don't work with V7 in versions lower than 4.8. I'm not sure what they are, but some deals with posing the figure.
Can't say about V7, but I've been using a bunch of non-DAZ G3F items, as well as Lyoness' LY Kassandra and the first vol of the Genesis 2 Legacy ladies with 4.7 and without any of the DAZ morph packs. I haven't noticed any issues to speak of.
ds 4.6 64 bit pro runs if ds 4.8 64 bit pro is installed? Not on my machine, I have downloaded and installed ds 4.8 64 bit via the install manager and that was it with ds4.6. I wanted to go back to 4.6 but unfortunatelly I just have the 4.6.1.33 version as installer and haven`t found the latest running verison in my backups :( after installing ds 4.6.1.33 new ds 4.8 did not work anymore. Then ds-support gave me a link to download the latest stable version of ds 4.6 64 bit pro. I have downloaded the file, have done what ds-support told me and run the install manager and then? yes, not ds 4.6 64 bit pro was installed but ds 4.8 64 bit pro ... I have totally no clue what went wrong :( so now I work with ds 4.8 64bit. No nerves to try again.
And I still don`t use any of the genesis figures. I do use a v4.2 based cr2 figure and also m4 :) No chance to get my Dixie character transformed to g2f. I can do what I want it will not look as good as the v4.2 cr2 version. So because I allways do my renders with my self created Dixie character or my self created m4 Characters I still use v4.2 and m4 :)
Yeah. I use Perfect V4 and Beautiful Bends M4. The only reason I am considering it is for the free $50 coupon for Daz originals. Still lot's of old stuff I want, lol.
It works as long as one is the Beta - the way they released the Beta was specifically not to overwrite anything in the "real" installation. (Apparently with some fiddling you can run two "full" versions but DAZ Support recommend against that).
I keep copies of the installers for every version I've ever installed just in case I need to go back. Sounds like it's been a wise move for me
Keeping copies of old versions are definitely a good plan ... I nearly had a heart attack when I downloaded 4.8 and my computer freaked out. I was so relieved I still had the old version on my old laptop so I could uninstall 4.8 and reinstall 4.7.
Software problems put my livelihood at risk and make me leery to update too fast. I think I used DS3 for two years before going to DS4+, lol.
All of the Genesis Essential Starter packs (for 1, 2, and 3) have always been free, just like DS. It's the specific morphs/characters that cost money.
I don't think I would have had it had I not upgraded then later downgraded, though. It looks as though it came with my failed attempt at upgrading to 4.8.
She seemed to work fine in 4.6 before she was released, whatever it is that's not supposed to work I never noticed. If in doubt download the G3 started essentials first and try her out. V7 is just a morph for G3 afterall.
I assume, like most things for v4, there are freebies out these floating around, too? Like poses and such?
In DS46, mirroring poses will not work correctly and any mats that depend on the new default material or Iray materials will not work
Well ... Even if I never use v7, the coupon alone makes the $22 dollar purchase worth it. Spend $22 for a $50 coupon is $28 still free. Right?

Yeah, the promo was enticing for me to go with V7 and be in with the latest/greatest but no $50 coupon when I logged in this morning.
It's 9:46am MST...Yet still no coupon?..Are we the only ones here that haven't recieved them yet?
I am about to spend my coupon and really wish there was a category just for props or to search for non-people stuff and skip all of the stuff I don't want.
Have you tried using "places and things" category from the top bar of the store page?
Yeah. I had to go about it backwards, rather than using their link to Daz originals. I had to do three different searches (places/things, hair, animals) then narrow the categories with DazOriginals.
But it worked and coupon is spent on some older stuff I have wanted but didn't NEED.
Hope the other coupon recipients also enjoyed their shopping spree :D
