have you tested your smarthphone as hologram projector?

I'm curious about this way to project holograms using the smarthphone.

This is a very cool effect, but it has nothing to do with holograms.
It LOOKS LIKE one. ;) Other than that, sure it's a "trick". But it looks nice from what I can see in the videos. Haven't tried it myself.
It's a variation of the "Peppers Ghost" effect. The method in your picture is of a picture or video where the object has been rendered from four sides. The cone is sat on your screen, and it is the reflection that you see. The original is good for Halloween using a monitor placed facing up below a window. Then use a sheet of clear perpex angled behind the window. Render or film a ghost that had been brightly lit on a black background as video, then play on the monitor. To people on the outside it looks like there is a ghost floating in mid-air.
Sweet :D
Put the monitor and mirror at a higher level to keep people from seeing how its done.
Unfortunately "hologram" has become an overused and frequently misused word. As a true holographile for 50 years I cringe a little more each time I see a misinterpreted visual effect labeled "hologram". Once you see a true high quality hologram in person and understand how it works you'll never mistake simple imaging tricks for holograms again.

It is doable, but require a more complicated setup. Something like this

Haven't we learned anything from Star Trek?
Holograms eventually want to be treated as real people, get frustrated and try to kill you... I already have enough of a fight with predictive autocorrect. There is no need to add killer jellyfish into the mix... Besides, as cool as the idea of Holo-jellyfish run amok may seem, would a hologram really be all that cool? So far they are pretty monochromatic and not all that holographic to begin with, but even if they were of movie imagination quality... What would be the real advantage over 2D? Granted, during a newscast, you could look around from the back of the person at the desk to see if they are really wearing pants (Walter Cronkite never wore pants when on the air and most news people were naked from the waist down back then, which is why news shows today have fancy glass tables to discourage that practice)... But aside from that, there is nothing much to be gained... You don't go to a play or live show and walk around the back or side to see whats going on over there. Most people complain if their seats are are too much to the side at plays, shows or even movies. Would Obi-wan really have gotten that much from the hologram of Leia, that he could not have gotten from a voice or 2D recording? She was tiny, monochromatic, had scan lines, there was dirt on her butt that made it look like she had an accident... Would you be all enthusiastic about running off to rescue some tiny crazy women who pooped her pants?... A hologram could potentially be harmful to your rebellion. And if you think of it, having a full body holo-conversation with someone rules out discretely scratching your butt... And partial body holograms, would just be creepy. Although... during a work related conference call, it could be funny if someone could slip around the hologram of, perhaps your boss or client and do the bunny ears thing from behind... But after a while the novelty would wear off... Especially if the hologram was real small.
Sorry... I think it's a neat effect... Novel, and a cool trick... But I need my phone's autocorrect to stop mangling my memos and emails before they move on to killer jellyfish.
EDITED TO ADD.... That is a jellyfish in the picture... Right?
