I've entered an early build of my work in progress game Messar Dreams in the 2015 Indie Game Maker Contest.
You can download the game for free here: http://contest.gamedevfort.com/submission/544
Messar Dreams uses a whole bunch of DAZ products in its artwork, including:
- http://www.daz3d.com/dystopia-modular-command-center
- And heaps of others. I'm sure you'll recognise them as you play!
If you enjoy the game and put in a vote for it, you can also get obtain a 400 page graphic novel set in the same universe.
Any feedback would be welcome, too.
Thanks for your time!
Shane W Smith
(PS: just in case someone is worried about the licencing, the game itself doesn't contain or export any 3D assets. All DAZ products have been used as 2D images only, so it's within the terms of the standard EULA. I checked.)

I tried to download it. After a good portion of the file [it is large] downloaded it was then blocked by the browser FF [runs the AV to finalize a download] as it claimed it may contain a virus or spyware. AV is Kaspersky.
@ShaneWSmith Congrats on getting your game up and in the contest. I saw your name over there and was wondering if you were the same guy I'd seen over here. I ended up not entering this year, but as an indie dev myself I'm a huge supporter of the community and am downloading a bunch of the games to review and keep an eye on while the devs improve and polish them after the contest. I haven't got your game downloaded yet, but it's definitely on my download list - I just started downloading today and there are a ton of them that I want to get including yours.
If you don't mind my asking, what engine did you end up using? There are a couple of them specific to VNs but I've seen some used that aren't typical to the genre and they've worked really well.
@patience55 Chrome has been trying to block all the games I've been dowloading from the competition. I've been over riding the block and then scanning them for viruses and so far it has been all false. I can't speak to Shane's game (haven't downloaded it yet, but it's on my 'to do' list) but if it's anything like the ones I've downloaded then it's actually your browser blocking it and not anything to do with your antivirus.
Again, I can't say for sure because I don't use FF and I don't know your system but everything I've tried has come up clean. All we can do is just use our best judgement when our tools want to protect us to death, lol
The engine looks like Ren'Py. I've worked with it before.
I also had Firefox block it, but downloaded with IE and both Avira and Malwarebytes said it was clean.
Downloaded fine, after I signed in to Dropbox, but crashes before it even opens every time I try to run it. Windows 7. Tried to run as administrator, tried different compatibility settings, nothing worked.
EDIT: Figured it out, I needed to download all the dll and other files in the same folder, not just the exe file.
Congrats for entering! I've long thought about making a game like this... which engine did you use?
Thanks all for your comments.
Thanks also for checking out the game @MegonNoel, I appreciate your interest!
@MegonNoel @mtl1 @DarkSpartan The engine I used is called TyranoBuilder, which is like Ren'py but uses a visual GUI to reduce the coding requirements. It's 25% off for the next few days, and they'll be launching a Game Dev Jam this coming Monday with a prize of $800 IIRC.
@Patience55 The file definitely isn't infected with a virus, but thanks for letting me know it's getting pulled up. I'll need to consider alternate distribution methods going forward!
