Back after years...best guide to bringing old content into 4.8?

Hi. I've been away from 3d for about 5 years. I was primarily a poser user but the integrated iray has won me over and convinced me to return. I have installed 4.8 and now I'm ready to consolidate all my old files into a raid box dedicated to runtimes.
That said, I'm having some trouble getting content to show up. I added a poser content path for a single item but I can't make it work (show up in the content panel).
I know this is elementary, but I'm in need of some newbie help. I'm not non-technical...I use cinema 4d and octane render as a forensic visualization professional for court cases.
Thanks for reading this!

there is a link in page 14: http://docs.daz3d.com/doku.php/public/software/dazstudio/4/userguide/finding_loading_and_organizing_content/tutorials/mapping_directories/start
Probably you need map your new directory
Make sure the path you specify is the path to the folder CONTAINING the Runtime folder -- if there's another folder in-between then the Runtime won't be read properly.
Thanks so much!
I'm gonna piggy back on this topic as I have a related question.
Some old props I have have .mc6 files for materials or such. Some seem to work..other's don't. Is there a way to convert them to a "all work all the time?"
If they're procedural rather than texture based they won't work.
An .mc6 file is a Poser material collection - equivalent of a materials preset. Unfortunately with any Poser materials DS will read only the basic settings and ignores the Shader Tree section (like a Shader Mixer network) - in most cases that at least assigns the basic colour maps but in some cases the Shader Tree is doing all the work and the basic settings are not useful. There are not any scripts or tools currently that will try to interpret the full Material Room specs, as far as I know, so if that is the cause of the failures I don't think there's anything to be done.
I've been through several versions of in th 4.x line. Getting content not installed to the default location to show up has been a continous battle. I've even had to show canned scenes where certain files are. Very annoying.
Where are you installing the content?
Which one? There are two — the Content Library tab has the Poser and D|S Format views, which will show every bit of properly installed content in every folder you've told D|S is a content location. It also contains the Categories and Products views, which are dependent on the content database... which will not know anything about old content installed in old runtimes.
There's also the Smart Content tab, which is even more dependent on the content database, and which will not and can never work with old runtimes — the "smartness" comes from extra data in the new type installers which lets the database know about relationships between content items. The old installers that went into your old runtimes will not have this extra data. Also, smart content is very much a DAZ thing; most freebies and anything bought from other stores won't have it unless the content creator put in the extra effort to set it up.
