Stroller?

Anyone know of anywhere that I can find a stroller? Not a baby carriage or a pram. I can find several of those, usually vintage or even steampunk, but I haven't seen a common reasonably modern stroller. It doesn't matter whether it's the high-end molded plastic sort or the cheap sort that fold up like an umbrella. But I am looking for a stroller.

ETA: I did find an acceptable free one. But it's in .max format. Anyone know of a way of getting into a .max file and exporting it as an .obj?

Only 3DS Max can open .max files, unfortunately.

    Yeah, so I've found out.

So. Next question: Is there anyone out there with a copy of the program who would be willing to convert a free .max model to .obj for me? The file is dated 2009, so a reasonably current copy of the program ought to be able to get into it. I'll pay for the service in the form of a small GC.

I'm grumphed in that, as a student I'm qualified to download the free student version, but I run a Mac, and the Mac has problems that I've not found the cause for yet, so there is no way I'm pushing the envelope to try to install Windows on it as well as Yosemite.

Ship me a link to your object. I was looking for a reason to reinstall Max anyway.

I've been looking for one of those too!  Any chance, since it was free, you could share that once it's been converted?

Where did you find the original?

I found one that I think is the one he's talking about, a hoodless open-faced jobby in blue with the correct date. I'll get it open here in a couple of hours and pass J0del a link if it works in Studio after conversion.

If not, I'll see if I can modify it. Worst-case scenario, I get my toddler's stroller out and make a new one.

    If its the one at

    Link removed

Then it's the one I found. Or at any rate, the one at the far left of the 2nd row is the one I found. The pink one seems to be from the same site.

The first one in the top row, would have done, and claims to already be in .obj, but the free download page that it links to doesn't have it.

The vintage one, which is the 2nd one in the top row turns out to be in Poser format. I'm not sure that it actually has a texture, although there is a texture file. I'm not altogether certain that most people would recognize it as a stroller, however. It looks rather like the don't-it-yourself special that I've seen of snapshots in my parent's back yard taken about 1947.

I'll be very grateful if it does convert, but I suppose the vintage one would do if it doesn't.

Close... The one I found was the blue one at the end of the top row. That said, textures for that shouldn't be hard to modify if the UVMaps are worth a dingo's kidneys. You need it for Studio, or just in .obj format?

I found a link for the stroller at position 0,0. Maybe it works, and maybe it doesn't-- we shall see. The size of the base mesh concerns me, however. Something that small may have material zones, very few polys, and likely no UV maps. There are certainly not going to be proper textures.

On review, it's likely to mangle if imported to Studio, never mind that it'd have to be rescaled to even fit. The geometry looks clean, but Maya is reporting that it's got a crapload of tris I can't see, and that might go... Badly.

Max is installing now, and I have a copy of the pink flowered version. I'll know what's up in a few minutes. I made a quick prop out of the other one, sized to G3F, and I'll toss that one in too. Leastaways it didn't explode...

  • Make sure the version you are converting allows redistribution.

The notes on them indicate such.

The .duf came in as a solid brick, but I suspect that was my fault. I'll check again once I've had a chance to quit out and relaunch.

Importing the .obj file went much better. The .obj came in absolutely ginormous, but it came in. This is at something like 0.25%. The .mtl file didn't seem to make the transition, so I went at it with the geometry editor. Had no problems with the shaders applying funkily, so the UVs are all right.

I made the straps invisible, since they aren't rigged. I'll do those in postwork if I need to. From the look of it, I'm not sure there are enough polys in the vertical straps for them to bend smoothly around a figure in any case.

I never thought to look but there is one in the carrara object browser

  • JOdelJOdel Posts: 6,316

Huh. Imagine that. Carrara has a lot of good stuff. But apart from opening up one or two of Howie Farkes's scenes and rendering them, I never got any real use out of it.

You can export the obj for DAZ, do the wheels separately if you want to turn them etc
