Install Manager and Windows 10?
in The Commons
Hi,
This most likely has being asked before, so if anyone could point me in the right direction, it will be highly a appreciated.
As we all know it is Windows upgrade season. And what I would like to know: is how do you backup the Daz's Install Manager data/my data? I really dont want have too enter all my data over and over, with each new version of Windows. So it is about time I learned how. That is if it can be done.
Please and thank you for any info given.

The default locations for all the DIM settings are:
C:\Users\Public\Documents\DAZ 3D\InstallManager
and
C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Roaming\DAZ 3D\InstallManager
Thanks,
I found some info on my own. To my understanding all I need to do is backup the manifestfiles. But, I guess I could just garb/backup all the data in there and paste it back in, after I do a clean install of Windows 10 and a reinstall of everything else I own.
Why would you do a clean install of Windows 10?
Actually, I didn't have to do anything.
I've been using a little utility called 'SyncToy' (available from the Microsoft site) to maintain a copy of all of my content directories on a USB-attached external drive, and I keep the original content packages on another external device -- just in case. So, even after a clean install (which I do every year or so -- that is, re-format and re-image the disk, just to get rid of the crap), I can recover the content directories, simply by copying the directories, or better still (a technique I use on the other two machines), mapping the external content drive in DS. And Poser, since I use both.
The Windows 10 upgrade was downright painless (if you think a two-hour upgrade process is painless -- hey, could be worse!), and everything ran flawlwssly after it completed. I'm up and running DAZ Studio 4.8 under Windows 10, and I haven't had any issues -- so far.
So, based on my own experience, I really don't think you have anything to worry about.
EDIT: Oh, yeah -- you probably will have to re-import the metadata which, depending on how much content you have, may take a while. If it's early, top off your coffee cup and grab a Danish; if it's later in the day, well, shaken-not-stirred is my preference, with a bit of Beethoven (the Ninth would be a good choice) for ambience.
