Pulling Out My Hair

I just spent all day trying to make hair. I got a nice little object made - started in sculptris yes, but ya know it was for me and the mesh isn't doubled on itself. It's just made of trangles.

I got to the "make material zone" part.....

Anyway.

I hate it and I never want to make hair again.

That is all.

(PS everyone that makes hair, I love you please keep making hair. Especially toon hair.)

You are just experiencing a temporary condition scientists call "Tri-dimensional Polygon Manipulation Frustration Syndrome".

TPMFS is often caused by not finding exactly what you want in a 3D site's store. The victim will then decide to create that item for themselves.

The Bacteria which are responsible for your condition are called Polygonia Pisstoffia, and were probably picked up from a doorknob or by touching products at an art store, book store or some other place that creative people hang out.

These bacteria find a cozy place in your brain that is not too far from public transportation and has a nice park for the kids to play in and it is there they lay relatively dormant until they are riled up by a combination creative juices (that is as gross as it sounds, thank god they are only internal) and frustrative juices (not so bad, they actually smell like lemons).

Once agitated, Polygonia Pisstoffia will start to head toward the eyeballs in large groups to see what the hell is going on out there. But being that Pisstoffia are very self centered bacteria, they all try to fit into the optic nerve at once causing the victim more frustration and a splitting headache.

    Determine if you have TPMFS

    • Did you recently attempt to model something for the first time?

    • Have you visited an art supply store, book store or DYI center in the past six months?

    • While there, did you touch or lick anything?

    • Are you currently reading this on a computer or tablet device?

    • Do you have narrow optic nerves or tiny eyeballs?

    • Do you still have a headache?

    • Do you hear yelling and shouting coming from your eyeballs?

    • Is your keyboard sticking out of your monitor's screen?

If you answer yes to any of these, you may be suffering from TPMFS... or Ebola, or be experiencing a stroke.

There is no known cure for Polygonia Pisstoffia. But there are steps one can take to make their lives less difficult.

Easing the Pain and Stress of TPMFS

    • Soak your eyeballs in cool water... It is best to NOT remove them from your skull before soaking them. Studies show once removed, they tend to fall out frequently afterwards.

    • Take frequent breaks and sing opera songs when you feel symptoms coming on. Polygonia Pisstoffia hate opera and will disperse for a while if exposed to it.

    • Avoid Heavy Metal, Hip Hop, Experimental New Age Jazz and Broadway Show Tunes while experiencing a bout of TPMFS. Studies have shown these genres of music will excite and rile up the bacteria to the point where they can actually cause the victim's eyeballs to explode.

    • During a TPMFS attack, ride a unicycle. A recent University of Wisconsin study of fifty two unicycle riding Russian circus bears showed them to be completely free of Polygonia Pisstoffia bacteria. Although Polygonia Pisstoffia only effects Humans and Swedish Meatball Hamsters, it is believed that unicycle riding can help ease the pain of TPMFS by substituting other stimuli from the painful falls experienced by unicycle riding.

    • Read or watch tutorials on how to completely achieve what you wish to accomplish, before hand. If the relevant information can not be found search forums or ask questions on said relevant forums. If nobody responds or the information can not be obtained, try consulting a Gypsy fortune teller or other qualified psychic professional. In the event that does not work either, purchase a unicycle.

    • If symptoms persist or become worse, consider a lobotomy or getting rid of your computer.

Most humans and Swedish meatball hamsters who suffer from this condition eventually go back to what they were attempting to make once they find information they feel will move their previous project forward. In some cases the victims are successful, but for example, in 88.5% of the cases involving Swedish meatball hamsters, madness was the end result.

The most unfortunate fact about TPMFS is that most creatures effected by it usually forget about the whole thing after a short while and continue to revisit the exercise that caused the episode in the first place.

There is 88.5% chance you will try modeling or content creation again... Especially if you are a Swedish meatball hamster.

The preceding information was provided by a grant from the National TPMFS Awareness Foundation and The International Unicycle Manufacturers Institute.

If you or someone you know has TPMFS seek professional help or purchase a unicycle. There is no known cure for TPMFS, but SilCorDyne Pharmaceuticals is working on an expensive drug that will help mask the symptoms to some degree and help victims appear to feel normal until the side effects kill them.

  • I may have to purchase a unicycle. LOL. I really shouldn't go around licking paintbrushes in Hobby Lobby, but they're just too tasty not to.

LittleFox has some tutorials on how to make hair, at RDNA. The bundle (Modeling with Littlefox: Hair Collection) is actually on sale now 50% off.

  • Yes, I know about those tuts. But... eh. I've had enough of the hair problems. I actually got pretty far, but with blender suddenly not having a working unhide feature that killed it for me.

Which version of Blender are you using?  Alt-H still works for me in 2.79.

  • I just downloaded and installed tha latest version last night but I was using 2.7. I looked it up and alt-h not working apearnly is a common problem. There were people reporting that one computer would work and the other stopped doing it, so it's definitely a bug.

So in edit mode I can click mesh ->show/hide and the problem is solved.

uv unwrapping is my currently standstill. I had the hair uv wrapped fine, and then I I found the work around and told myself, eh.. I'll finish this. (But trust me when I say I plan to never make another hair prop. I truly am content to throw my money at other people's work. If only I could put up a sketch and say "somebody make this?" in some place..) And now the uv maps are so fubarred it's crazy. And they won't unfubar.I've tried everything the internets suggest. So once again at full stop with no solution.
