Looking for quality G2F textures with realistic skin

ToborTobor Posts: 2,300

Yeah, you thought by "realistic features" I meant naughty bits! No, in this case, I'm talking about skins pores, blemishes, skin creases (fingers yes, but also belly, arms, legs, etc.), and other features of real skin. So much of the junk out there lacks any detail at all, so even with Iray, you get very unrealistic renders.

I'm not looking for boils, zits, skin tags, big warts, huge moles, or other unsightly artifacts, but natural stuff you'd see on an unairbrushed photograph.

So, any ideas for good high resolution, high frequency, high realism skin textures for G2F, paid or free (but with a commercial license)?  I did find something on Rendo that looks exactly what I wanted, but it was for G3F, and I'm not using her yet.

What was the texture set at renderosity you thought looked particularly realistic. Different people have different ideas of what that means, so you will get better advise if people know exactly what you're looking for.

I think, for instance, the main daz figures textures and the elite textures are the best for realism.

Parris' Macro Skin is very good. I've slapped different diffuse textures from other skins, and the highly detailed Normal and Bump maps add wonderful detail.

The Macro Skin looks like a very good choice. I'll look more into it, though I'll have to wait for it to go on sale. Thirty five bucks is a bit steep, even for the quality. (After all, Daz's regular prices are always high, so they can have great sales!)

The Rendo product I was thinking about is Eloyse, judging only by the details in the face. Same would go for many of Tempesta's items, I suppose. What I've found, thought, is that for lots of these vendors they base their textures on the same couple of skin sets, altering them here in there in Photoshop -- which I can do myself. So I want to find a couple that are different enough to be go-to resources for a number of renders.

Promo renders are hard to judge. Another Rendo texture, Buenaventura for V4, looks washy in the promos, but is very close to what I'm after.

Another option is Skin Builder. It's not as finely tuned as some skins, but you get a range of options and can tweak. Combine with Skin Overlay (which can add veins and freckles and age wrinkles) and you get even more range.

I have Skin Builder, but frankly, Photoshop is better and easier to use. That and the fact that they then want you to buy another product just to rename the temporary files LIE creates (or suffer through LIE rebuilding the images each time) had me close to returning the product -- in over six years the first time I ever contemplated that. In the end I kept it, but except for the tanning feature, I don't expect to use it much.  (Sorry, I don't usually rant about vendor products here, and I like the vendors' other offerings, but this one leaves a lot to be desired.)

I looked at Skin Overlay, and it seems to go in the other direction. I'm going for realism pretty good looks, too.

Vascularity is pretty easy, and don't need a product for that. Thanks for the suggestions, though.

If you like tempesta's stuff I think you would also like Raiya's stuff from the Daz store, as a lot of their textures are similarly non-smooth http://www.daz3d.com/stella-hd-for-victoria-6 is a good example. Their textures also have much more consistent spec and bump maps.

Also don't forget that a lot of tempesta's newer stuff is at runtimedna

Thanks for the suggestions. "Newer" as in possibily already be tweaked for Iray? It took me almost two hours to re-conform the Buenaventura textures to look good in Iray, and a lot of trial and error to get the sheen just right (tanned, wet look). Lots of little things to look for and correct, like teeth with a white emissive color. Oh, the things they used to do to make these look good in Poser and D|S!

As far as tempesta's stuff goes, other than the one for g3f there don't seem to be any .duf files so you'll definitely need to do some tweaking.

You don't need any extra plug-in to get your LIE images.  They are saved as .png files to Studio's temp folder and the location of that can be found in Preferences.

I have several of tempestra characters. Most of the characters I've seen are made for Poser. They come with Poser SSS and Poser Std materials. The Poser Std material will usually sort of work in DAZ Studio, although it frequently does not load the specular strength maps which you have to find by hunting in the Textures directory. I setup a couple of these characters to use AoA SSS Shader and I have some info/renders on Amore and Fanny Flowerchild here:

I just installed Eloyse.  She comes with AoA SSS and Iray skin material.  There do not appear to be any genital maps, if that is an issue for you.

Thanks, appreciated. The lack of genitqal features isn't a big deal; most of these are for "product demonstration" -- holding things, and the shot is waist and above.

I'm used to modifying the texture materials, sometimes heavily, for Iray, but it would be nice to start having skin designed for it. I'm okay with Poser-only displacement and other maps, and can convert those for D|S as  needed. Since I'm using Iray, it doesn't matter to me what Poser material presets they used originally.

What kind of detail map does Eloyse come with? The file listing is not self-descriptive:

       EloyseL1.jpg
       EloyseLB.jpg
       EloyseLS.jpg

I'm assumping B is for Bump, and S is for Specular, but some vendors do things non-traditionally.
