Problems with previewing lights in a scene

Hello!
These days, after upgrading to 4.8 (4.8.0.55) I'm experiencing problem with previewing what goes on with spotlights in the preview viewpoint of a work. Especially when aiming a spotlight directly at a flat surface. These days that area remains black. Which makes it harder for me to determine the behaviour of the spot directly in the viewpoint without rendering it and to see what area it will cover in the render. And it doesn't help with turning on the 'preview light' function.
I also cannot copy the values of a light to another one anymore without copying the position too. Earlier it was possible to "copy selected item" with a light item and "paste shape" and thus copying only the values of the light without also copying the position. This is not working anymore the only way for me to copy light values is copy selected item and then paste pose. And thus changing the position as well. Is there possibly a way around that?

I realize the spotlight strenght seem to have grown weaker. Also the shadows have grown lest distinct, sometimes they are not shown at all, To make sure I was not imagining things I took out an old pic and re-rendered it, and sure thing, without changing any settings it came out darker. Can anyone help me out here?
The copy and paste behaviour is, I think, expected. I'm not sure what could cause the other things though, assuming you are using the same render engine.
