Unsupported Autofit Item
in The Commons
Most recently I am getting a really annoying error in both Studio 4.7 and 4.8. I try and load an item that does not use Autofit and I get the Autofit Dialouge Box and I can't select anything on it and I have to end up closing Daz. This is really annoying. Is there a way to prevent this.

what do you mean an item taht doesn't use autofit? Do you mean an item that is not compatible with the current figure you have selected?
you can't even use the cancel button ?
Which item is this?
This has happened to me as well. A similar error sometimes occurs when applying standard Iray Uber shaders to a material. All windows lock up with the "spinning circle of death." The auto-fit error is reproducible, and I've just been deleting the item (they're all old V4 clothes). The Iray shader error is random.
Its kind of hard to explain.
I load a figure like M4 or Star, M4 and Star as far as I know don't use autofit by default. yet when I load certain items they give an autofit callout and I don't want that. and I can't even cancel no.
I did not know you could autofit to M4. I thought autofit was only for genesis and newer figures?
By my knowledge, it is, Lars.
Furthermore, Star is a third party product and definitely not supported...
Yes, it is only for DS-weightmapped figures, so M4 is out. DS version of Star is a weightmapped figure.
Autofit is made of 2 main steps:
1) use a clone morph to adapt the shape of your object from the source figure to the target figure
2) automatically rig the new object using a projection template (ie default rig for that kind of item)
Any DS-weightmapped figure has autofit capability, even those not created by DAZ. But most don't have clones or specialized projection templates included, so the first step won't change the autofitted object's shape, and the 2nd step just projects the target figure's rigging on it.
That's true about the 2 steps you mentioned which makes Star very interesting. There is a version weightmapped for Studio and version weightmapped for Poser. If you load up a piece of clothing weightmapped for the Poser version autofit will (usually) work to make it work with the Studio version with caveats.
There is no clone Star for Star, the shapes are identical so that's fine. When you load the clothing the importer goes nuts because of the Poser weightmapping and you may have to wait five minutes for all the out-of-range errors to go flying by. When that's done the clothing disappears---but---wait for it and wait and wait then suddenly it appears all fitted to DS Star and it works perfectly (except for skirts).
The arm/hand in my avatar is Star wearing a Poser weightmapped outfit auto-fitted to DS Star.
I haven't tried it, but theoretically it should work the same way for Dawn, Dusk and Baby Luna, too.
Yes, it does. Since they don't have projection templates included the rigging on the converted piece may need to be adjusted though.
True. For skirts/dress/robes anything that doesn't fit the figure's contour it won't work without the corresponding templates.
BTW, how do we make templates? Is it possible?
I think there's a bit about it in the transfer morphs thread, but I'm not 100% about that.
Can only think of one reason why autofit is starting up with M4, you have been foolish enough to have used the "convert figure to weight mapping" function on him, now all his content is incompatible with this version, and autofit is going to fire up every time you try to conform something to him.
I keep telling people not to use that unless they fancy doing a complete rebuild, and not just the WM and rig, but also the morphs and usually the JCMs, but as always it goes in one ear and dies of boredom.
Star has two versions, so assuming your using the DS version then I can think of two ways that autofit is kicking in, first one is your using clothing designed for the Poser version, second is that the clothing is for the DS version but the "compatible base" hasn't been set, in both cases DS will always fire up autofit.
It is definitely possible, Sickleyield has created some for her packs (see her Tunic or Dress Rig packs, for example). I have no idea how you do it though ^^
I have created basic clones before but have never played with weightmapping so far.
Yep definitely possible. Dawn has some templates provided with her iirc since sr1. For those who want more there are dvl-lvd's templates at share cg. There is a run down for creating templates or was on the old forums not sure if it is still available. It's my understanding that they are weight mapped meshes that have been saved in a certain way so they can be used by autofit. ..As a template for weight mapping new outfits.
Basically they are just a conformer, anything you save as a "wearable" can be turned into a projection template, you just need to place the files in the correct place and edit the internal paths for them to work.
