Can you fit one clothing item to another (v4 to g2f thoughts)

Since I've not seen anyone suggest this, I assume it doesn't work how I'm imaging it. but would it be possible to, for example, load a skirt made for G2F to G2F...then load in a v4 skirt and fit it to that G2F Skirt, as a way to avoide the divot problem?

possible. I have accidently conformed one hair to another and occaitonal clothes to one another and didn't get distortions.
Cannot remember if they were different generations of clothes and hair though
There's no 'clone' so it's not going to exactly work like AutoFit.
AutoFit is the STARTING point, not the end results. Yes, a lot of the time, the results are good enough...but it's a 'one size fits all' approach an well, often that just doesn't cut it. So, it gets all the tedious/difficult work done...so that the fine tuning, by way of an additiona' fit morph still needs to happen to 'finish' the conversion process. And that is the part most often disregarded.
Also, the 'divot'/shrinkwrap propblem isnt' all AutoFit's fault, it's also the item being converted. More often than not, the poly density or loop flow just isn't there to make a smoother conversion. Applying SubD BEFORE converting can help with some problem pieces...but in general that will over inflate the poly count...needlessl (because the rest of the item doesn't have the details that would make that much higher polycount worth it).
I just find more often than not, the skirt divot which I assume comes about because it's splitting the center into two legs?...just can't get smoothed out no matter what I do, and most often, I get it as best I can, then fix it in post, but I'd like to avoid that.
Sometimes, especially in a non-T pose, and when the skirt/dress has a patterned material, the divot isn't noticeable. Try applying a mat and posing before chucking.
On a few items -- ,maybe 25% of them -- applying as Unsupported will skip the clone, and you can manually fit. Doesn't work with everything, obviously.
If a vendor, someone of the caliver of zev0, could figure out how to smooth this out, even if it's not 100% complete, it would be a best-seller. The divot is usually the same size and shape, and appears at the same projection from the fifure, so automating the fix seems a reasonable idea.
The "divot" is caused by the crap auto generated morph system, it quite literally tries to force the mesh of the outfit into the crotch of the base figure, as it attempts to push the morphs in to the outfit.
Custom morphs are sadly the only real way to fix it, but you can use other methods to minimize it's impact in your scene.
It's more than just that...it's the clone, the weight mapping, the geometry of the item being autofitted and a bunch of other things too. Some which are controllable...but most things are set to accept the widest variety of inputs with 'close' results.
To truly 'fix' it, all the variables that go into to fitting something, need to be exposed to user control and then it goes from an autofit' to a fitting/rigging system...
Just like real life, velvet & crushed velvet MATs are very good for this.
And depending on the time of year (usually winter) and material (crushed velvet/velvet in some synthetics) may actually contribute to both 'shrinkwrap' and odd divots themselves...'static cling' anyone?
Another thing that sometimes helps...applying a slight 'push modifier'...it can push the skirt out, away from the legs enough that it won't be influenced as much....but you need to drastically adjust the push parameters, by default the amount is huge.
It is called Transfer Utility (Effectively Autofit with manual controls.) and it is included.
Not all of them...you can't adjust offsets with the TU or if you can, where? And to be able to do it without needing custom morphs, you'd need to be able to manually adjust offsets.
Ah.. I guess that's the problem...when ever I apply push modifier, the outfit just blows up like a baloon, so I cmd-Z it. I'll try reducing it way.
It comes it at a setting of 1. In Studio that's a full centimeter...it only needs 0.1 (1mm) or even less, to do most things. Now if you want to use it on a May West or a rubber dingy...or recreate a scene from Willy Wonka...yeah, more than that is needed.
Cool! I'll try that next time. (this time, I just loaded a V4 morphed her to match the G2f, but the skirt on her, placed her where G2F is in the same pose, then invis'd V4 (won't let me delete her without the skirt going off into the air...I guess I could export to obj and bring back in, but this is good enough for now.
...I frequently use the base MFD as a Geometry Shell and fit Gen4 dresses as well as even long coats to it to eliminate the "skirt divot" and stretching of texture maps that often ocurrs.
Yes, but it's not 'autofit'...there's quite a bit of manual fiddling. It can be done...easier if you are fitting, let's say something for V4 to the V4 MFD.
And if you export the skirt as an obj, from the 'base' pose. Then use Autofit on another copy to G2F, you should be able to use MorphLoader to bring in the obj 'custom' fit and make that a 'fit morph'.
Hmmm..these ideas are intriguing to me and I wish to subscribe to both of your's newsletter.
I gave up long ago in trying to find a workaround for the mesh distortions. I logged a case in support and was told "we are working on it" but, in the meantime, I figured out how to use the Blender Sculpt tools. Now I use them not only for fixing the crotch area but for fitting clothing to non-standard, morphed characters that I create using various morph packages and dials. I also use the same tools for fitting clothing to poses when necessary. I'm not a modeller but the sculpt tools are pretty easy to use. SickleYield has some tutorials on Deviant Art. Fixing the "divot" takes only a few minutes and you can save it back to the garment as a morph asset so it will always be there whenever you load the skirt from your content.
...but it seems rather of pointless to fit the V4 MFD to Genesis or G2 as you run into the same deformation issues you would if you just fit the inteded Gen 4 dress to the figure plus you would lose the movement handles. I add that smoothing modifier and set the dress/skirt to collide with the MFD Geometry shell, not the figure.
It was done for this pic without needing to use the Morph Loader or Transfer Utility.
KK..can you explain how you use MFD as a geometry shell?
Fitting one clothing item to another is very useful at times. Randall Lloyd has a good video showing how to fit a tunic to the Genesis supersuit to achieve some results that couldn't be done with just one item.
Sickleyield already has, check her stores here and rendo, I think the G2 one is here and the G3 one is at Rendo, but I could be remembering incorrectly.
Do you know what product? I mean, there are plenty of threads about the divot...and if SY had an actual "get rid of the divot" fix (not smoothers to make it slightly less noticlbe) , I'd think it would be mentioned in each of those threads.
