Scaling down Daz characters in maya

September 2022 in Maya Discussion

Hello this might be a noob question but I can't figure out how to scale down daz characters that i've imported into maya.  I've tried from the hips and from the mesh but no luck, the skeleton ends up seperating or the mesh turns deformed - any help wouldbe awesome from you geniuses!  Thanks!

Go to Windows on the top main tool bar. Choose outliner. In the outliner there will be a purple joint chain with a plus sign next to it. Click on the plus sign to extend the heirarchy. You should see grey diamonds next to anything that is geometry. (sometimes the geometry is parented or constrained to joints deep into the heirarchy so this may not work for all models) Select all the geometry objects that are under the main joint (Genesis8Male or hatever the importer named the root joint) With all the geometry objects selected you middle mouse drag them out (straight up) and above the root joint in the outliner window. Next grab the root joint and scale it. This should give you the results you're looking for. Once you have the scale you want put the geometry back in the heirarchy the same as it was before you moved it and all should be okay. Sorry I can't provide visuals.
