PhilW's Beanie Hair

Can this hair be used without a beanie or hat?  If so, what does it look like?

I don't think it can, it seems that the beanie doesn't morph an existing, complete hair, but is sort of a part of the hair really. The second set, with the hat, seems to have a morph as well, but that's explicitly for other hairs.

  • Thanks tsroemi.  Too bad it can't be a "stand-alone" hair.

You might want to try this, it can be used with any dForce hair you have: https://www.daz3d.com/dforce-hair-helper-and-knitted-hat.

The whole point of this hair and the companion Brimmed Hats is that it is easy to use a hat without worrying about pokethrough or the fit of the hat with the hair, it is a very convenient way of using a hat with a character. The hair itself does not exist under the hats, it grows from a small gap between the edge of the hat and the head.

Having said that, I realised that some people may want to use Brimmed Hats with other dynamic hairs, I have therefore included morphs which raise and scale up the hat. This enables you to set up a simple animation with the hat either raised or scaled up in frame 1 and then lowered into place over the course of a short animation, compressing the dynamic hair under it. If you still get a little pokethrough after simulating, you can gently scale the hat back up to hide this, or there are other morphs in the hat which may help. If you get a really difficult hair, you could always do two renders, one with the hat and hair, one with just the hat and no hair, and composite the two renders together.

I hope that helps. If you want something with just the hair and no hat, maybe one of my other hairs would meet your needs better.
