Does anyone know of a clothing set that's suitably historical to portray a late 18th/early 19th C US Frontiersman / Ffur Trapper/Pioneer ? ( Think Davey Crocket/Daniel Boone types) There's a few Indian outfits, lot's of late 19th C cowboys but I'm having troubles tracking earlier outfits. Ohh..what I'm looking for is for M4 and Poser..nothing Genesis-related.

    Leather jacket like this?:
    http://people.virginia.edu/~mgf2j/buckskin_hunting_shirt.jpg

or a hunting shirt like this?:

Either way, I could whip up a dynamic outfit for Poser/M4 fairly quickly. It would be untextured, however. But they can be easily textured, if you know the basics.

Either of those would look great..possibly the buckskin hunting shirt is more classical ? :)

Okay! Give me a day or two. I've started roughing out the jacket, just need to work the detailing.
The fringe will be a bit tricky,.... depending on how high-poly you want it.
I can do it as individual strips, which gives more realism in movement, but takes forever to simulate, or... I can make 'blocks' of fringe (one piece for 5-10 'strips', and the texturing would have to carry the look across.

Here's the rough block version with fringe.
I would have to test how well Poser handles the high-poly fringe, but as I said, I can make a version with larger pieces that can use transparency to create the fringe look.
(I am still deciding what to do with the collar area.)

P.S. Belted, not belted? Open front or closed? Other tweak requests before I go further?

That's looking great :) Open fronted would look good, I think, , that would give it more versatility in posing :)

    Open it is, then...

Nearing the final MD creation stages.
Lowered the hemline to period lengths, added a rounded cape-like collar style to match.
----Next up testing in Poser to see how the fringes manage there.

[Will probably end up also doing a belted version (open from waist to neck), and a more 1950's TV version (shorter, modern collar...) so options will be available.]

This is really looking great - spot on. There's lots of "fantasy" outfits about, but relatively few historically accurate ones :) Thanks so much for working on this one :)

Historical is what I do, mostly. Much of my stuff at ShareCG is Poser, some is straight MD.

This jacket is fun... I started a pair of leggings based on the Caitlin "Hidatsa Dog Dancer" at one point:
I may adapt it to this project... shorten the fringe on the leggings and they would pass for Eastern Woodland styles.

Yes, shorter fringe and a bit higher...to up under the jacket. Of course, some of the guys would have the fringe all the way up to the waist...

True enough, but I also have to consider the Poser cloth room limitations. Just because **MD** can make it work, doesn't mean that Poser can handle the load. That's where the testing will come in.

    Hi Rosemaryr

Good looking buckskin jacket. I want to be able to recreate scenes with authentic clothing. I have collected and sewn miniature authentic clothes using old Godey and Petersen fashion magazines that I have collected for years. I also have books with patterns. How much do you charge for doing this. I use daz studio and export my figures into Vue. I work with V4 and M4 all the way to Genesis 2 so I could work with your figure of preference.

I saw your share gallery on my iPad and need to look more closely. I liked your work a lot.

    Thanks for the compliment.
Currently, I am busy with this project, a personal art project, and a potential paying gig for someone else. (Not to mention that this is a hobby level thing for me; I work full-time in retail.)
As for program preferences, the garments I make in MD would have to be made conforming/boned for DAZ Studio, as they would NOT be dynamic, as they can be in Poser (which can make dynamic cloth from almost any .obj file.) As I am not a D/S user, nor experienced in the boning/conforming process, a good deal of that work load would have to be done by someone else. (I also am not much of a texture artist yet. Still in my learning phase for that.) That tends to put a damper on working with most D/S users' requests. Still, if it doesn't scare you off, we can talk further....

First Poser Cloth room test went smoothly (always a relief!)
Have to make sure that the 'shins' were in the collision list. Even though the jacket doesn't *look* that long, it will interact with the shins in a bent position...

Thanks for answering. It probably wouldn't work since I don't make clothes at all and couldn't add anything to it.

I think I'm about to call this one ready.
You may have to tweak the 'collide with' settings a bit, if your limbs and torso get too close, but overall the coat plays well inside Poser.

Now, to finalize the other versions, and get everything packaged up properly.

    Outstanding work!

Looking at this I really miss the cloth room in poser.

Now we need a coonskin cap, LOL.

Sorry I haven't posted. (Vacation is almost over and I had some real-life chores to do.
I'm in the process of getting the Poser testing done and the packaging of everything for you. Should be just a day or two now.

Finally!! (I swear that getting them packed up for Poser takes 3 times longer than actually making them!) Lots and lots of material zones, all with logical names, for those that like to customize the textures!

They are now uploaded at ShareCg:
    http://www.sharecg.com/v/81447/gallery/11/Poser/Dynamic-Fringed-Buckskin-Jackets-for-M4

Three versions: two long, frontier era jackets (one open, one belted closed) and one modern version (shorter with pointed collars).

Be sure to start your cloth room sims with M4 in an A-pose: upper arms down at 45 degree angles.

(I will be posting the MD versions soon for those that have MD....)
