Problem assigning eye textures

edited August 2015 in New Users

I'm using Daz3D Studio 4.8 that just came out, and I just got Actual Eyes 4 and Amazing Skins For Brodie 6. The problem is when I try to assign the textures it doesn't show up.

For example, with Actual Eyes 4, no matter what color I choose the result looks like this:
Just flat, like its not mapped. (And yes, I am using the DAZ version.)

And again, with the Amazing Skins eye textures: when I select my G2 figure, and double click the eye texture I want, I always just this result:

Flat, with no special shading. None of the special effects will show. And this result is also in the final render. I've tried to change various surface settings but nothing seems to help. I've used Brodie 6 and the vanilla G2 Male model, and always same outcome.

What am I doing wrong? I didn't think I would be so difficult. Clothes, easy; skins, easy; props, scenes, lights, hairs, all easy. Eyes? Daz throws a huge middle finger at me. Why?

    What renderer are you using?

    Iray

I believe that both of those products are intended for 3Delight.

Without doing anything else, just flip over to 3Delight for a test render. If they work, then you'll need to fiddle with optimizing them for Iray.

Thanks so much. That seems to have been the problem. I really like Iray though. Any suggestions for how I would tweak them to work in Iray? What settings? or do I have to make my own texture using the maps? Sorry I'm such a noob, I don't find DAZ very intuitive, and its hard to find useful tutorials. (at least for me)

Probably applying the Iray Uber would be a good starting point.

I really wish that someone would cull all the Iray threads and compile a settings/tweaks/suggestions list...but there are several good eye suggestions buried in there skin and hair, too).

Also, one of the key things for good looking eyes in Iray is to use a bulge morph on the Cornea...

Thanks again, I will start experimenting with that. Anyway you could point in the direction of these other threads you mentioned?

Here's an overview listing of many of the important Iray threads...

The Tips and Tricks and Show Us threads have most of the settings.

I was going to suggest the Iray Optimised MATs for G2F and G2M, they automatically set the eye materials and semi-glossy bits like the finger and toenails. But I just checked the latest Starter Essentials installers and they're not there any more — I got them from the Beta content installer that had all the new 4.8 goodies. Anyone know where it might have gone?

    They're still there, in People > Genesis 2 (Fe)male > Materials > Iray

Yes, that's where I have them, but I got them in the Beta content installer, not the current release Starter Essentials. I just dug into the installers, and they're not there. Unless there's been (yet another) update since the 4.8 release...?

I have been having this same problem and just now, after reading this thread noticed the eyes work in 3Delight.

I was wondering if you may have found a way to get it to work in iray ?
