Creating seamless textures and patterns

alaltaccalaltacc Posts: 151

What program(s) people use to create seamless patterns and textures, be it from pictures or procedurally? As I'm only a hobbyist, very expensive options are not something I would consider; free ones or very good but not-free-nor-very-expensive ones are a possibility, as long as they sell licenses instead of using the "novelty" of "SaaS" (Software as a Service), or a monthly subscription to use a software - a way of making you pay forever for something you used to pay once. :-)

    google: "tilebale texture tool"

    Or have a look at:

    https://boundingboxsoftware.com/materialize/ (free)

    https://filterforge.com/ (non free)

    https://www.pixplant.com/ (non free)

https://store.steampowered.com/app/1775400/Substance_3D_Designer_2022/ (non free but still non SaaS on steam - this software might be overkill but is considered the de facto industry standard for material creation)

or check the google results about how to make seamless textures with image editing software like Krita (free).

I use the 2x2 transform offset under layers in Gimp then the clone tool on the edges

    Thank you both!

@cgidesign, I'm VERY impressed with Materialize! In FIVE MINUTES I was able to create the test material whose render is attached to this message. :-) The software is direct to the point and objetive... I'll probably watch some YouTube videos about the others to see if I'll consider them, but as all the others look much more complex I'll probably stick with this one for now. Thanks!

     yes

Yes, Materialize does a few things only, but those ones quite well.

You maybe also like to check how to make normal maps out of an image with it.
