Ok, let's talk dwarf beards (For Genesis 1, or that can be adapted to fit close enough.)

But not just any old beards... Epic dwarven beards! Beards you can be proud of. Beards that won't get you thrown out of the nearest tavern, nor shame your ancestors!

What'da we got?

DarioFish has a Dwarf race for Genesis over at Rendo. If memory serves, that comes with a pretty epic beard. :P

Kaputcha is correct the dwarf races set from DarioFish has 2 very detailed beards with metal trims.

That is a good set. Mec4D's Unshaven Beard for Genesis has a lot of possibilities too: http://www.daz3d.com/unshaven-beard-for-genesis

The only downside to Unshaven beard is that it doesn't have beard braids.

However, the upside is that it's VERY flexible and looks great even in Iray.

    Thanks for the product info!
I'm kind of surprised there aren't more options than just these few though.

Maybe, but Unshaven is like 300 beards in one...

some randomly-googled pics for thought... not all all from dwarves, but the style applies.

Are there any hair experts out there who know how hard it might be to modify the texture of an existing product to make it more scraggly?  There are some beards (I'm thinking of M3 and earlier) that are very straight, flowing hair, not really a match, but perhaps if retextured they could be made to work.

Also on the topic of modification, has anybody tried taking braids from a different hair product, hiding the other bits, and adding them to an existing beard?

have you tried mixing in a hair that has braided pig tails.

sometihng like I tried here, I don't have many hair selections to do more then what I did here, but it might work

@XaatXuun, that worked out pretty well.  Offhand do you remember which pigtail product that was?

I see the Cytheria ultimate braid for V3 ( http://www.daz3d.com/cytherea-ultimate-braid-for-v3 ) has a "Braid Short.cr2" that might also be handy to help in building a braided mustache/beard style, you can just select that right away by itself without having to hide the rest of the hair.  I played with it for a few minutes this evening, although I see I will have to adjust colors a little bit to get it to blend well.

Oh, and I also just noticed that the "Unshaven Beard for Genesis" parameters for choosing the beard style and length can be cranked up past the 100% limit to some extent to get a larger beard.  You can't go too far or it starts to look wacky, but you can go somewhat beyond the promo pics.

yes I do remember, it's freebie at ShareCG, HMHM-Hair, but  I also used AprilYSH Goatee (for Genesis).

in my search to make sure I spelled the names correctly, I did come across this Michael 3 Long Beard , think that could work along with Cytheria ultimate braid for V3
