    OT: completely!

But big news in the medical area:
    http://www.nbcnews.com/health/health-news/new-test-finds-every-virus-you-ever-caught-n369961

A test that will identify every (well, nearly every) virus you've ever had, for $25. Reduces the need for testing for individual viruses at $100 a pop.

I think what surprised me the most is how few species of viruses there are that attack humans (200+). Most people show infection by an average of just 10 different virus species.

There are a lot of strains, though. They mutate like crazy!

I wonder...why would I want to know what I had? I guess there must be a reason for it.

    Dana

Maybe in case you cannot remember if you had chicken pox as a kid and was wondering if you can get shingles or not.

or for finding out if you have been infected by one of the unusual or hard to diagnose diseases that might explain years long problems.

...bugger, site went offline for a bit.

Was out most of the day today. Comfortable weather sunny and in the low 70s.

Later in the afternoon, stopped at a neighbourhood pub for a couple pints where an "interesting" event occurred. While sitting there enjoying the sun's warmth, apparently a small bird, not quite yet ready to fly was knocked from it's nest in a nearby tree (was a bit breezy). Confused (and most likely scared) the little fellow fluttered about the tables eventually landing on the one I was sitting at. He came hopping over to the edge right next to me almost as if expecting me to help. All of a sudden he tried to take off and ended up almost landing in my beer after which he hopped up and perched on the edge of the glass. Before a couple of people sitting across from me could take out a smartphone to snap a picture he fluttered off into the entrance of the pub. During the ordeal "mom bird" was flying all about trying to get him to fly back up, but his wings were just not that well developed enough yet.

One of the bartenders mentioned this already happened earlier in the day and (with the aid of a ladder and newspaper which she coaxed him to perch on) she was able to get him back up in the tree where the nest was.

Needless to say I was given a fresh beer.

Would have loved to get a photo of that though.

    FRIDAY! :cheese: PAYDAY!

    MEGA NON-COMPLAINT! :ahhh:

PTO made it into this check so it's a whopper! Going to byte the bullet (lol) and get a new laptop from Newegg!

Just Paypal'ed money to NewEgg for this baby:

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=34-318-559

It's a refurb, but NewEgg has never let me down - past 3 devices I bought from them (2 tablets and a laptop) were factory refurbished and my laptop has lasted 5 years(!!). :bug:

This should last me ANOTHER five years, with any luck! :cheese:

Downside.. little fun money next week, this took a huge byte (heh) out of this check, fat or not. No strippers for me! *cry* *cry*

This puppy benchmarks over twice as fast as my current laptop, so my music software will scream and DS should perform decently.
The NVidia card doesn't have enough VRAM for iRay (only 2GB) but my freaking display should be qute responsive! :)

Bryce will be nice on this as well. :P

Oh well, hot dogs and cup-o-noodle for a week.. but this is worth it! (suffering for my art lolz)...

    ...cool.

Saving what I can to get that Titan-X GPU. Yeah,350$ more than the 980TI (which was just released), but it should be able to handle 98% of my scenes in video memory (which means less time waiting for a render to complete), so the extra investment will be worth it.
