Daz Weight Map D-Former info

I am looking for an option to make a few morphs for a PROP (bends and such), but the spherical d-former (which I've used successfully a lot) is not working out for me. There is a Weight-map influence option, but I cant get it to do anything, and can't find anything about it.

I would add a handle if I knew how, with some WM's, but again...not sure about how with a prop (no rigging) Most videos refer to WM's with the rigging...

Anyone have a good resource out there on the web somewhere for this?

Well, first morphs are not a good way to make bends as they move the mesh vertices in straight lines - if you want actual bending you need a figure with bones.

Assuming you still want to weight-map a DForm, create your DForm. I suggest moving the field right out of the way - if you don't it will be baked to the weight-map, which you may well not want (since it obviously isn't meeting your requirements or you wouldn't be doing this). Select the DForm and switch to the Node Weight Map Brush - you should now see the Influence Weights listed as an unused map in the Tool Settings pane; just click the Add Map button and use the geometry Editor and Node Weight Map Brush tools to edit the weight map (as with any weight map editing).

OK, this is probably what I am running into. So this mean that WM's aren't gonna help me. When I "rotated" the d-form, it does not really bend the object, which surprised me.

Rigging...ugh...been trying to avoid it like the plague

When I press the "add map" (influence weights) button, nothing happens, oddly. If the "influence mode" property is set to "sphere" it will change to "weight map", but no weight map is actually added, and I can still press "add map" (influence weights) (i.e. it's not greyed out after pressing it).

Anybody knows what might be up?

OK, so to pinpoint the issue... I can apply it alright when I try it on a dformer applied to a normal object, but not when I try it on a dformer applied to a geoshell. Which is odd because the sphere option works without issue even on the dformer on the geoshell.

Is this a known bug (influence weight maps not working on dformers applied to geoshells)? I'm using Daz 4.11.0.257.

A GeoShell should be a clone (plus push modifier) of the base shape - that's really the whole point. It may be that DS allows a parametric dForm (using the field) as it is low-overhead, but not a map, or it may be that you haev found a bug of some kind. If you report it via a technical Support ticket they will either know the answer or be able to check with the developers.
