SLI disabled!
Hi! I have just installed a second graphics card on my Asus P9X79 WS Motherboard which runs on win 8.1 but the sli is disabled! I get the impression that it is disabled by default but seem to be having a problem finding how to enable it!
Has anyone managed to enable sli in win 8.1 and if so can you post a link to a page or youtube video on how to do this!
I'm very eager to try rendering with reality using two graphics cards!

Did you try Googling it?

Yes that was the first thing that I did, not seen anything that seems to solve the problem!
I get the impression that this is a problem that does not currently have a sollution other than different os!
I am running SLI on Windows 8.1. I didn't have to d o anything special after I connected them with the bridge. For most situations, unless you are being silly, like me, and running 3 monitors as a single wide monitor you don't need SLI and for most graphics uses you are better off disabling SLI. Note very few games actually take advantage of an SLI configuration.
I don't have multiple monitors connected at the moment but would like to get a 4k monitor. I was hoping that having two good graphics cards would decrease rendering times when using reality!
both cards appear in the nvidia software but no option to enable sli! Looks like I'll have to open the case up again and see if the sli bridge is connected properly!
Are they the same kind of card? (SLI requires the cards to be the same kind, for example 2 x GTX 980, 2 x Titan Black, etc.) Also make sure they are plugged into the right ports on your Motherboard, and your Motherboard supports SLI.
For LUX and other render engines SLI does not help, though having two graphic cards does for GPU rendering. If one card can not drive a 4K monitor, two will not help there either.
I have two Nvidia Quadro k5000 I got from eBay at a reasonable price! I have Luxus and Reality! I suppose I'm a little impatient and would like to see the results a lot quicker than without, although 3delight is a lot quicker and and the resultscan be very good!
Don't worry about SLI with those. Just use them as is. LOL. Lux render (Which is the render engine both Luxus and reality connect to.) should pick them both up for GPU rendering.
I think the problem with Reality is that you can choose either no acceleration, pure gpu or hybrid! When you have acceleration enable you can select how many gpus you have and how many gpus you want to enable, but when I do this I get a runtime error and will only work when I choose one gpu instead of two!
It does mention SLI Frame Renderingon the Nvidia website, although I imagine this would use a pro renderer like octane which I don't really fancy paying over $400 dollars for the renderer and the plugin!
Are you saying that luxus could use both gfx cards even though sli is not enabled?
Well, for Octane also, it is recommended to disable SLI.

I see you can get a trial version of octane, Ill give it a go and see what happens!
No Demo for Daz3d!
I do not know if I can help it, but you've ever been in the NVDIA panel and searched if there is an option to enable sli there?
for example:
NVidia control panel> click on set physx or configure SLI option>
well, I do not know if there will be the option for you, but I know there when it comes to dual GPU, all in one plate only
there is no option to enable sli there, just select a physx processor!
