In need of ideas for a particular setting

Hey there, folks.

I'm working on a webcomic and one of the scenes takes place in a nursing home (one of the characters is very elderly and near the end of is life). Although I have seen some stuff here to serve as the interior well enough, although perhaps with some modification, I haven't found any buildings that would work well as an exterior for the "establishing" shot. What I need is something akin to a hospital, but I haven't found any buildings that suit. Closest I have found is the Neptune Wellness Center, and that isn't quite what I am after.

I've tried looking on other sites like ShareCG and Rendo, but they don't seem to have anything that suits either.

Has anyone come across something like this that might work? I don't mind if I have to do some minor modding, but I'd rather not have to make the entire model myself if I can avoid it.

What price range is your nursing home supposed to be? If it's a more luxurious one, this one could work: http://www.daz3d.com/country-resort-bundle. At least such establishments are erected in my country.

In the UK care homes and Nursing homes frequently are converted "mansion" style houses. Even the purpose built ones don't really look like hospitals. Some are built as hotel style buildings, such as this one, which I have visited

    Greetings,
I always forget that West Park doesn't have an exterior! There are some buildings in Stonemason's Urban Sprawl 2 which I could easily see as a hospital, if used standalone.

That said, I'm pretty shocked that there isn't a more modern exterior hospital out there in easy reach.

    Too nice.

This character is one who was once great, but now in his age and infirmity is kind of fallen on hard times and out of people's memory. So I want him to be in an average to maybe slightly below-average nursing home. The reaction of the other characters is supposed to be like, "THIS is where this great man ended up?" The resort would not evoke such a reaction.

Same basic comment. Although wealthy old folks might retire to such a place, again, I want to convey that this guy is, if not fallen on hard times, at least not living in the lap of luxury. He's a has-been and I want that to be evident.

I have US 1 and 2, so I will look, but I have not so far noticed one that presents itself as obvious.

And yeah, given how many hospital/nurse/doctor props and interiors we have on the shop, I was really surprised that there isn't an exterior to go with them.

Thanks for the help, although so far you are confirming my own suspicion, which is after much searching with keywords and everything else, I have not found anything that suits.

I really, REALLY do not want to have to make it myself.

I was tempted to just find a photo to use as an exterior shot, but the main character is supposed to be IN the shot looking at the home, and I am going to have to use it again in future issues, so I really need it to be a 3D environment.

Custom-built nursing homes (in the UK) - at least the ones I've seen, look more or less like low 2-storey office buildings (sometimes 3 if they are in town). There's often very little difference from the outside between state (free) and private (pay) facilities - generally just a NHS logo on the sign. Out of town, they'll be in landscaped "parkland" just like a modern office estate.

Repurposed nursing homes, as Chohole mentioned are generally large Victorian era manor/mansion houses. There's about a million interiors that will suit, but the only exterior I found here is this: http://www.daz3d.com/manor-house and it's really just a corner.

I think if you can find some lo-rise office building props, you might only need a custom sign for the entrance, and throw in a few trees.

I'd take a serious look at Dreamland Models Movie Sets over at Rendo. Just looking at the thumbs of some I have in my yet-to-be-installed folders I see a few possibilities...

    Low Poly Block five
    City Block Fifteen
    Low Poly Two

I have most of the Dreamland sets and they're great, with a lot of different types of hotels spread through them. Actually, if you're looking at the seedier side, I'd recommend looking at Movie Set 12, which has a fantastic YMCA building which would nicely evoke the idea of someone on hard times.

Here at DAZ, you might want to look at Hacienda Hermosa, an incredibly versatile set that works great if you're setting is in the west or southwest US. Over at Rendo, there's also TruForm’s Driveway Hotel which is fully DAZ ready and has both interiors and exteriors.

Some of the individual buildings from Stonemason's Backstreets may work. I can't post any renders of the right now, but I can in a few hours.

One alternative would be to use Casual's McjCastle and dingy the textures up a bit.

The Nursing Home my Mom lived in until she passed away looked a lot like this set.

The name and banners are removable. I assume you would want to put up a nursing home sign/s of your own. Just a thought

    Heh.

Well, that might work, except I'm already using it as a school. :)
