...myself, I only purchase the base characters as often many of the other items are content I rarely if ever would use. The last pro bundle I purchased was the Young Teens5 one for at least the clothing was appropriate, all contemporary themed,it also included nice "teen styled" hair content (one style which has become "iconic" for my Leela character), as well as the extra character morphs had nice skin maps and features.
Most of the time figure bundles have too much fantasy (and for the gals) skjimpwear to get me interested. I tend to pick the items I like that come out at the same time and build my own bundle so to say (now there's a sale I miss)
If I'm reading Cybersox13's post correctly, he's using Teen Josie as an example of the "good-old-days", although the more recent Jayden and Giselle were even better deals. Josie's cost-per-item on release day is 4% more than Jayden's. Darius and Monique are only 4% more than Josie, so it doesn't seem to me that the difference is as drastic as it's being made to sound. What was the average or median price-per-item for the Pro bundles you've purchased?
It comes down to this for me Josie had 16 items in her pro bundle and cost base price 134.95 at a cost of 8.43 per item and Darius 6 pro bundle 134.95 base price for a cost of 13.50 per item. that is roughly a 5 dollar increase per item in the set. That is before any discount as I wanted to compare just straight prices.
That I think is the issue -- it seems to me that very few sales are made at the base price. The price at which things are actually being sold is the more relevant comparison, IMHO.
Then if you want to base it off the sale price lets do the standard sale price which is 30% off the base
Darius 6 Pro 94.46 which comes too 9.45 per item
Josie 6 pro 94.46 which comes to 5.90 per item
A difference of 3.55 per item
To me that is not a small number.
Now had they offered the new bundles for the same price per item as the old bundles I would have bought in a heart beat. But as it is DAZ is getting a clear 35 dollars when they sell the new bundles. Can I fault them for trying to make money. No but I can wait to buy these new models.
Well, times change. There may be some around who remember when DAZ first started. Their flagship was the first Victoria. If my information is correct, she (it?) commanded the handsome sum of around $100. No bundle, just the model. I believe that the Zygote figure that preceded her was even pricier. So, maybe we've been spoiled. Just sayin'.
Yep and if it was like that now which it seems to be inching its way up there I am sure I will not be the only one to leave this hobby. Prices came down because they saw if they dropped it they could make more money. They are inching the prices up and dropping the content to see just where that line is. How much people will pay for how little they get. Gas companies do it, as do most huge department stores. They will keep changing it until they notice a drop in sales then they will go back to the model price and content people were willing to buy. It's simple marketing doesn't mean we have to like it or buy into it. But you can't blame them for wanting to turn a profit.
Oops, I definitely stand corrected. My spreadsheet had noted average cost per item within a Pro Bundle based on the posted PC pricing before any additional bonus discounts. I was sloppy about noting the actual paid average cost per item within a Pro Bundle. I do hope we can see similar values with future Pro Bundles on release day even though the number of products included in the bundle are dwindling.

1 - the Josie Pro Bundle was $124.95 when released, not $134.95.
2. I didn't include Giselle in my list because I didn't buy her on the initial release and when I did buy her, I bought the Starter Bundle, so I didn't have relative figures for her.
3. Those prices for Jayden and Josie and were at effective discounts of approximately 63% off the then regular price of $124.95. Note that that's a lesser discount level than the 65% off DOs that occurs fairly often for PC+ members. Lilith was 68% off, still within the 70% off that the DO/PC+ discount sometimes brings (or the Fast Grab section.) Of course, to get the same price per item now, they'd have to be discounted a little more, but only a few percentage points.
4. By comparison, the discount currently being offered on M6 & D6 when purchased combined and with the added 30% discount coup is a whopping 78%. In other words, in order to make the price per item even with the initial release prices for the previously named Pro Bundles, M6 & D6 have to be discounted more heavily than any of the items in the Genesis blowout from three days ago (max was 76%), and just barely above the 80% off pricing of Gen 4 blow out sales. The point? Not only is this discount level highly unlikely to be seen again for another year or so, but even at the normal 65-70% max discounts we normally see at DAZ, the per item price of M6 and D6 works out to $4.72 - $4.04, versus $3.37-$2.89 for Lilith, $2.95 - $2.53 for Jayden or $2.77 - $2.38 each for Josie, even with the price of those bundles having been raised by $10 over their initial release cost.
The first Betamax cost over $2000 U.S. The first CD Players cost over $1000. If you bought a DVD player the first year they were on the market, you would have paid at least $500 for it. Do you really think anyone could get those kinds of prices for those products these days? Talking about the cost of Victoria 1 back in the day is irrelevant, as it was a new technology and a much smaller market. If DAZ had waited for the introduction of Genesis 3 to introduce this new pricing, it would have raised far fewer eyebrows. As it is, between raising prices at the back end of a product development cycle, when prices traditionally tail downward, and at simultaneously dramatically cutting back the actual content within the product, one can only wonder what they're thinking.
The value / buying power of the U.S dollar has slipped quite a bit since 2008, what with all the Feds QE and what have you, most likely has something to do with that (the knock on effects of it anyway). IMO Daz have done quite well to not hike there prices until now.
...which also means less "discretionary" income for things like this hobby, so it's kind of a "lose - lose" situation for those of us on the low end of the income scale.
I pay 25% more for everything here because of the exchange rate between the Canadian and US dollar.
The higher the price, the less I buy. I buy less, and fewer DAZ artists sell something. One character at $40, or 4 items at $10. One artist (or DAZ) gets $40, or 4 artists get $10.
How many times has someone missed the sale on something resulting in them never buying it.
Higher prices also have a chilling effect on shopping. Hivewire3D has some nice products, but the prices are too high, so I never buy anything from them. After a while I just stopped going to their site althoghter. Now it doesn't matter if something goes on sale there because I'm not even going to see it. The same with ContentParadise - i think I've bought only 1 or 2 things there, and I very very rarely go there. They have ancient, out-of-date products that are still overpriced. Like, what's the point?
Hey, DAZ charges me 8.25% Texas sales tax, so I feel your pain. Just be glad that DAZ products are digital, as hard goods get an additional price bump when they go through customs plus shipping. I still remember the first time I went into an Australiaan SF/Comic shop and realized that the majority of products in there were U.S. releases with the prices nearly doubled. :bug:
...part of the reason I chose not to look at moving to Austin. that would even further limit my purchasing.
