These sales are killing me

These DAZ sales are killing me. Just when I tell myself I am not going to buy any more stuff for a while, they put on stuff on sale that I want. They're killing me with this (or rather, my budget). I want to tell them to stop having sales, but dammit... buying new DAZ stuff feels sooooo gooooood.

I'm like an addict and the sales are my fix.

yep, that is how they reel the new guys in, LOL. Give it a few years and you'll become much more selective as you figure out what works for you and what doesn't.
Since you say you are new to actual modeling, making your props will also curb the buying bug a bit also.

DAZ has taken all of my entertainment money AND is keeping a credit card warm too!

It was nice the other day when some one asked if I could do a test render of a candle, parchment and quill pen writing on a table, that surprisingly I had all the items.

Rumors of March Madness now have me very nervous and my wallet keeps trying to hide!

I've tried doing my own props. It's really not my thing. I enjoy posing and setting up scenes and the like, but not really the model-making aspect. I know it saves money, but in this case, my time is much more valuable than the money it's saving me.

My biggest problem is, I'm doing a full-blown comic book with lots of different settings and characters so I need a LOT of stuff to make everything work. But I knew that would be the case when I started.

I'm not sure how March Madness can beat some of the current sales
The 'Share the Love' / Zev0 birthday sale combined with the $20 off $50 sale really got me. Used a $6.35 new texture item and added about 3 more items to get a net order price between 6.50 and $12 for each order. Altogether I made 11 orders and spent about $100; but I got 33 items (not counting the $6.35 texture) including a couple of $40 to $50 bundles and a lot of $15 to $30 dollar items from Zev0's store that I had on my wish list. That's an average of less than $3.50 per item.
But now I've really overspent the budget.

Are you saying that the $20 off $50 coupon was good for multiple orders?

If so that's new behaviour for the multi-billion dollar DAZ Corp. Normally, they limit those coupons to a single use - although I've said before how utterly stupid that is because such a policy actually restricts their sales.

I didn't know it was multiple use, so assumed it was the same old same old and didn't even bother to try it a second time.

So this discussion proves what I was saying all along. You spent more because you could use the coupon multiple times. I spent less because I assumed that it was a standard DAZ Corp "Profit Limiting" :) coupon.

The across the board price increases have pretty much done me in and done in most of the "savings" as well.

Here's a suggestion. Have a look at my Morphing Primitives pack. It has plenty of weird and wonderful objects which can be used for all sorts of things. I made it specifically for people who need odd props, but don't want to make them.

Yep. Me too. My impulse spending at DAZ 3d store has been greatly reduced.

I wish it was just my impulse buying.
Even the few things I really wanted and was waiting for ...
I see the price and am just like ...
"That's 30% off??? Are you kidding me???"
My credit card goes cold real fast when you break that $20.00 plateau.

Well, mine must have icewater in its veins because it tends to freeze up at $9.99 :-s

However a really hot items generates enough of a thaw to let me pump a little more juice out of it. But that means I must punish myself somehow for the rest of the week.

Yes. It was multiuse with the $50 requirement being met before the triggered discount. While the coupons are usually one use, sometimes it pays to experiment.

It reminds me somewhat of local store. There is always a sale with a deep discount, but prices are marked up high to compensate for the perpetual never-ending sales.

I realize we all must make a living. I'm just noting a lot of things are 19.95 without PC discount which comes to about 13.97 bucks. What I might buy for under 10.00 I'm not buying at 13.97

It's unfortunate that I learned to multiply because I seem to freak at the price $100 for anything, and completely understand that 5 items at $20 is $100 (surprise!). In my mind 5 is a small number but 10 is a big number. But for some reason $10 slips through my fingers seemingly of its own free will. Fortunately however, 5 items at $10 is only $50. So I could buy one item a day M thru F spending $10 at a time and still be not even close to my freakout point. Gad, I'm swimming in logic today. :-s

I took advantage of the 10% off gift cards, then used the card to purchase the discounted annual PC membership.

...well so far. Didn't jump on the Zev0 birthday sale as it required purchasing something that I'd never use (skipmwear) or that was too expensive (Pose Control).

Passed on the 20$ off because it required a minimum 50$ purchase which brought it to a minimum of 30$ which in turn was still too much to spend (and none of the items that have been on my wishlist were on sale).

...yeah, I'm a cheapskate, not by choice, but by necessity.

...besides, I'm half expecting Stonemason to release Urban Sprawl 3 during MM and I've been waiting for that since May of 2013.

I did some *gasp* comparative shopping on "teapots" this week.
I did not see much difference at all between DAZ's new $17.00 teapot and another store's new teapot that was $7.00 ... both were on sale at 30% off.
    I have a new $7.00 teapot. :)
    It renders beautifully.
    I could have bought 2.

Yeah a certain other store has several items on my wishlist for sale right now. What I like is, they tell me exactly how long the sale will last, so I can plan for it.

Now to scrape together some money before 2/28... lol.

Yeah, end dates for sales would be nice. I had things in my cart yesterday, but I didn't try to check out until after midnight (DAZ time), and the prices had gone back up, so I didn't buy anything. That may be a good thing, since there are some new things coming out soon I may buy. The one thing I've noticed with this hobby is that sooner or later, every item will be on sale again. Sometimes it is hard to temper desire with patience, though.

Probably true, but I doubt things with "NEW" tags will be discounted further. One never knows though.

Yep, true new items (i.e. less than 60 days old) usually don't go on sale but most other stuff probably will be on sale at least for a day during March Madness. The 2 items he asked about are definitely not new and have been on sale before. 'Hercules Pack for Freak 4' is a PC item and available for $1.99 if you are a member. And back in September I bought the Genesis Battle Ready Bundle (which included Heracles for Genesis) on sale for the low price of $10 So I would suspect they may be in March Madness.

    Wow! Wow !!!
But the problem was that months ago I had no interest in these items, but now .... I want to buy Heracles, to use just the helmet, and perhaps the skirt.
and the Hercules to freak I just want the top / shirt.
    But thanks for hope

Yes, Battle-Ready Bundle appears on FastGrab with some regularity, so it should make an appearance. Generally speaking, DOs and non-new items ought to show up at least once (even if it meant just the grand finale; judging from the last 22+ sales, connected items - this off if you buy a new release etc. - were mainly Generation 6 and props, lights, animals - Gen2F and Gen2M bundles would show up, but Genesis ones - not so much).
