Tara 2 HD for Victoria7 & Victoria8 broken.

Yeah, after downloading & installing the approx. 1.2 Gb product through DIM and firing up Daz 4.10 to test it, I find that it doesn't appear anywhere in Smart Content. Nothing. How long has this product been out now? https://www.daz3d.com/tara-2-hd-for-victoria-7-victoria-8

When I go to the Content Library tab and check in "Products", it appears grayed out. I check in C:\Users\Public\Public Documents\My Daz 3D Library\Runtime\Textures\KayleyssAD\Characters\Genesis8Female and the "Tara2" folder is there and has all of the textures there(afaik).

I load up Genesis 8 female base out of curiosity and click on the Shaping tab and Tara 2 morph dials for the head and body are there & work. Nevertheless, NONE of the material presets are available, nor the horns, etc. So what's going on here?

Just a FYI, in case this could be part of the issue, I do have Tara 8 already installed prior to installing Tara 2. I also rechecked DIM to make sure there wasn't an update that I had missed for the product.

  • It could have been an issue updating the database, at least in part - that would be one case where uninstalling the product and reinstalling might help.

I created a character using Tara 2 HD (G8) recently, including the skin. Worked fine. I'd try as suggested and uninstall/reinstall.

As a last resort, I went and checked the Content tab again, and instead of looking in Products(where you would expect to find it & everything else installed via DIM) I went into My DAZ Studio Library > People > Genesis 8 Female > Characters > and the Tara 2 folder(just the generic folder icon with no character or PA icon) was there with all of the options, morphs, etc. Can you confirm that there isn't an issue with how it was packaged vs. it being an issue with the database not updating? I don't ever recall this happening before with products not appearing in Smart Content with the exception of one or two other products, which I was able to find in My DAZ Studio Library > Products and they showed as being installed instead of grayed out.

Yeah, I guess I'll just have to give it a try and see what happens. I saved a scene file already to have for screenshots & settings references. Hopefully it doesn't break during the process of uninstalling & reinstalling, but I think it should be ok since the saved scene filing just points to asset location(or I assume).

  • Nope, I just uninstalled, redownloaded, and reinstalled it through DIM. I even made sure I left DIM open for a little while longer after completion, closed it, waited a couple of minutes, and restarted Daz Studio 4.10. Its still not appearing in Smart Content and I'm having the same problem. Sorry, but this is a packaging issue in DIM & nothing on my end. I haven't changed any settings and its the only product I'm having this issue with. indecision

Products is database driven just like Smart Content so if the meta data is messed up it wont show in either.  When trouble shooting content problems always use the DAZ Studio Formats (or Poser Formats depending on the product) section of the Content Library pane.

IDK about Smart Content, since I don't use it but the horn materials seem to be in a subfolder labeled "Evil Stuff." (People > Genesis 3 Female [or Genesis 8 Female] > Characters > Tara 2 > Iray [or 3Delight] > Evil Stuff.)

I've had no issues using this product, so far.

I got it working and was able to locate everything, but its a real pain in the twin cheeks having to dumpster dive through half a dozen or more sub-files and then scroll through long lists of tiny thumbnails while being mindful of the nomenclature used by the PA for the various presets/options. This is why I don't like accessing stuff through the Content Library tab unless its absolutely necessary. This must become a real ball ache for some that have thousands of products installed. surprise

I have a couple other products from the same PA that shows up just fine in Smart Content AND is also found as expected in My DAZ 3D Library > Products. I don't understand why or how this one product ends up installed in a buried location that requires a lot of guesswork figuring out which planet it went to while Smart Content is still telling me it needs to be installed. Seriously, Daz needs to get this nailed down. Its no wonder sometimes people freak out over content installations/missing content; especially when you sometimes have to go searching in places where its not suppose to be installed. They want to be able to find their content, not play "Where in the World is Product Installed?"

All Daz Smart content should be accessible through both the Smart Content pane and via My DAZ 3D Library > Products . Anymore I'm just going to start returning products that are like this until they correct the package installation because there's no reason for it. Nothing has changed on my end in regards to Daz besides the necessary DIM updates, which still uses the default settings.

You're asking that the PA and Daz ensure that content is placed in standard locations, create the metadata correctly and that the submissions go through thorough QA processes. I'm sorry but in many cases that is simply not going to happen. Daz and many PAs simply do not care enough. Problems with metadata or packaging will not be fixed after launch unless it makes the product completely unusable.

Did you either run DIM with DS stil running or wait a while after closing DS before starting DIM? The main potential issue is if DS closes and says shut down PostgreSQL, and DIM starts while that is ongoing, PostgreSQL may not be running when the intalaltion happens.s

You could try opening the Content Library option menu, the lined button in the top corner or right-click the tab, slectign Content DB Maintenance command, then checking re import Metadata and in the next dialogue check just Tara 2.

I honestly wouldn't be relying on Smart Content...it's...in general Smart Content isn't very smart. Being able to find something if that fails by using the Content Manager is definitely a huge help. I've started to set up a custom file structure for my stuff to make things easier to find.

What do you mean by Smart Content asking you to install?

Download it manually. Then look at the download to see how the files are organized so you know where they are and what they are called. No guesswork needed. You can also organize the DUFs however you like to make locating them easier.

Could it be an issue with Daz 4.10 itself? That is an outdated version of Studio.

Nope, I have a ton of DAZ and poser runtime products and always use the content library since I know where it was installed and can then find it easier in the content library because of it. I also have the products I use the most in my custom action scripts dropdown. I have no intention of ever using smart content, especially since I see issues with it in the forums often.

Rich, that's what leads me to believe that my problem is due to how it was packaged for DIM. I've always been careful with shutting down DAZ and waiting around 5 minutes before I start DIM and vice versa, since I know they can cause problems when running together. The worst I've experienced prior to this in regards to DIM content installations was just having to go into My DAZ 3D Library > Products to find something since it wasn't showing up in the expected location. I'll probably have to redownload the product after I figure out how to change the DIM setting not to delete the packages after installation since a while back I needed to free up some space and had changed it.

Believe it or not, this is probably the first time I've had a product installation issue with DIM and not having it show up in neither Smart Content or in the Product directory. Of course, I don't have more than 350-ish products installed through DIM, so I'm fine with relying on Smart Content for now. Nevertheless, from what I've been seeing with newer product installations lately and where they end up getting installed, I'm probably going to start looking into alternatives for DIM because I can see it becoming a problem as my product inventory increases. Even looking stuff up in My DAZ 3D Library > Product can be a bit annoying depending on the nomenclature they use for the product vs. the name used on the product webpage. Sometimes the addition or lack of "The", PA's initials/name in front of the product name could have you wasting a lot of time trying to find it if it doesn't match the actual name of the product.

Yeah, but I really don't have a choice until my new system is finished so I'm stuck with 4.10. I doubt this is a problem unless they've changed the filing system for Smart Content, in which case I would be experiencing this with all of my product installations using DIM. Tara 2 has been out for well over a year since I got it way back in early 2020, but never got around to installing it until recently.

When you uninstall a product, the metadata is not really deleted from the database, it is just deactivated since the product is not installed. If you had made custom categories, for example, they would be empty when you uninstalled the product, but would be restored as it was if you re-installed it later. To completely clear the metadata from the system, with the product uninstalled, go to the Products view in Content Library.

Under Products - T, go to the bottom of the list and you should find an entry for "Tara 2 HD for Victoria 7 & Victoria 8" as a greyed-out User folder icon with no thumbnail that says "Install Tara 2 HD for Victoria 7 & Victoria 8".

Right-click on it (in the list) and select Delete. Wait a moment and the list will refresh and kick you back to the top level. This will clear any remaining metadata associated with that product. Try installing again and see if it works properly.

Refreshing metadata from DIM or with Content DB Maintenance should do the same thing, but, clean slate, and all that.
