3d printing is now active at the store
So I see that the main tool bar now has 3d print on there and there are 4 figures to choose from! They also talk about printing from home! This is cool.

Printing from home has been around for a while. Most 3d printers come with the software to convert your .obj to .stl files If it doesn't, there are online services that will do it. No need to fork over money to DAZ.
Except that the DAZ Eula expressly prohibited 3D printing UNTIL NOW.
The Eula has been updated to allow 3D printing for personal use.
And Prints are available to be ordered.

I look forward to being able to easily order a custom figure/vignette.

So to be clear the new EULA allows only personal printing and use of DAZ products, correct? I can't purchase a new state of the art 3d printer and sell any products made with DAZ assets, or is there a license for this?
Can you give a 3d printout as a gift to someone? what if they sell it later?
Correct.

So its only for Genesis 2 Models only???
Also, what if I have clothing from Genesis and or M4/V4 on Genesis 2.
It would be nice if all the above, Genesis M4/V4 can be 3D printed. My creations are utilizing EVERYTHING!
glad to see the ELUA was updated for 3d printing. :)

Uhm I just read that comment by you for the third time now, easy, buy genX
Oh it didn't show that it went through till now.
Anyway, I have GenX
I'm not just talking about Morphs.
I have Clothing, Accessories that was made originally for Genesis and V4/ M4 that I use on Genesis 2. My Question is can they be used with this upcoming 3d printer??
Also, is it only designated for Genesis 2?

Is what only designed for Genesis 2?
The License doesn't specify a particular figure generation. If you go to the 3D Printing Tab, you will see that Custom prints are "Coming Soon."
Where did you read, that the personal use 3D printing is limited to Genesis 2 ?
As far as I understand EULA you can 3D print any model from Daz 3D store for personal use.

Oh ok.
I got the advertising alert about Daz doing 3d printing and got excited till I clicked the link...
And saw that it said It was customized for Genesis 2. I am HOPING that I can use my Genesis and M4/V4 Figures as well as the Genesis 2 figure.
here is the link again...

The Genesis 2 figures are print-ready, that doesn't mean you can't use other content if you make it print-ready yourself.
How can I make the other figures print ready?
How can I make the other figures print ready? It generally requires a modelling program, but how much work definitely depends on the printer, the printer software, the service being used (if any) etc.
The term you are looking for is "water tight" concerning 3D meshes. Most 3D Meshes are not "water tight" and making them water tight is, usually, the first part of the process. The second part of the process is understanding support structures, and thickness vs. weight, vs. size.

Ok cool.
Would you happen to have any names of programs I can look into?
And thanks again. Thank you all in fact, for helping me.
This is a historic moment! Fantastic! I hope there will be a tutorial on making those yourself.
Any decent modeling app should work. Basically you want the mesh to have no holes with all polys/verts connected/welded, unlike what we normally use for rendering which is many different mesh parts over each other. Game meshes are closer to being "water tight" since they are designed that way in the first place for performance optimization.

The big difference is the printer itself and the software that comes with the Printer.
What you can do with a Cubify or similar is vastly different from what the Latex and Nylon Printers can do, which is different from the sandstone style printers. Each model is different in its exact requirements as well.
All I can suggest is do your homework on the printers or services in your budget before buying.
While it may not be automatic, would Hexagon work for cleaning up an OBJ and making it watertight?
think autodesk 123D does and saves as a stl
While it may not be automatic, would Hexagon work for cleaning up an OBJ and making it watertight?Any modeling program can make a mesh watertight. The question is detecting the edges that are needed to make it watertight, and the amount of work involved. Hex should be able to do so, just the less automatic, the more manual work is involved.
I'm so glad DAZ has embraced the 3D market. It's so hot right now. Any company that isn't taking advantage of this new revenue stream isn't thinking clearly. I, for one, have no problem (and look forward to) spending a lot of money on printing my creations.
Today I was just thinking about how to use DAZ to make 2D cardstock figures for tabletop RPGs so the next time I play D&D I could bring a custom paper figure of my character . This will be even better .
I decided to type 3D in the filter in the DIM and found the 3D Print Geo-Graft downloads. It would have been useful if it showed up as an update.
It only shows as an update if it replaces an existing zip. If a new zip is added it never shows as an update. Obviously they didn't want to include it in the Starter Essentials and make everyone download 100's of MBs just to get a 161 KB geo-graft.
