Admittedly a little off-topic, but I think my spendings actually went up this year.

The bundle deals might have gotten worse, or so I hear. I wouldn't know because I never bought bundles and I still don't (the very occasional exception aside) so I don't really pay attention to that.

But I'm fairly certain there have been a lot more items for below $3 this year. Plus there was that time almost all G8 core characters and HD add-ons were $5. They certainly figured out how to keep extracting money from me *:/

I got the Jacqueline, Brooke, Jada, and Cleopatra bundles for under $20 each during sales. I do like the bundles, but it pays to wait. I probably would have gotten the Bonnie mega bundle but they pulled the orange banner after one day, Back in the day it payed to get pro bundles but this new structure of having addons already in the bundles and only old products offered as freebies if they have freebies at all seems like they are shooting themselves in the foot.

I picked up Jada 8.1 yesterday for $8.99 and I could have picked up Fred at the same price.  That said, the total price of the Noska Mega-Bundle, after an Orange Bar offer and all of the various discounts were added on, was more than cheap enough to make it worth buying... my take out came to a per item price of $2.51 each and that's not counting the anatomical bits in the total.  At regular price or with just the normal DAZ discounts applied, however, the new bundle systems have usually been mediocre deals at best and way, way, WAY below the value the old Pro Bundles offered on release... especially when you already own all of the various items that are being offered in the various "get with purchase" categories.  I used to buy every Pro bundle that came out almost automatically, but these days I usually wait about two months when the deals have consistently become much better, even when you're buying the items as individual components.  Honestly, I don't know what the people making the ads and add-on selections are thinking of, as all they're doing is making the new bundles far less attractive on release.

My spending has stayed about the same, but what I'm buying certainly has changed.  I really don't care for most of what's come out for G8.1, let alone the incresingly overpriced bundles, and the lack of new products being specifcially labled as G8 or G3 compatible has definitely driven me more towards the older items in the catalog, as well as increasingly to other stores.  Mind you, my collection has become so stupidly big that even if both DAZ and Renderosity stopped selling products tomorrow, I could still render for years and years without ever running out of new assets to use.

As the number of sub-$3 items increasing...  I'm not sure if there have actually been more items showing up in the $1.99/2/99 sales as I only see what I haven't already bought, but those promotions are definitely being offered far more often, and products featured in those promotions have been making an increasingly larger percentage of what I'm buying.  Especially since it seems that some of the vendors featured heavily in those sales disappear from the store shortly afterwards, with Emma&Jordi being the most recent major departure I've noticed.  The cart that I'm working on right now, for example, currently has 33 items in it and all but three of those came from the $1.99 sale.

Not sure if there was a brief hiccup, but the bundle is where I would expect at the moment?

$96 ? its actually not bad at $5 a product, ut no way I would buy a bundle at basically $100. I have no incentives to buy it, banners, etc, so the lowest I can get it is $86 by buying 3 items that are already in the bundle.  would get the $60 coupon though, so essentially places the mega bundle at $26. sort of.

...K, but it's listed on the page and in the store, which was the comment I was responding to where someone wasn't seeing it on the page or in the store.

It seems Daz just aren't getting enough products made by PA's anymore. More and more bundles contain old products. I wonder how long the "free to play" business model is sustainable without a constant flow of PA content to sell that isn't just poses, mass of generic G8 females and resorting to breaking out clothing textures into yet more separate packages.

valid point IMO. A someone that has modeling skills and has thought about being a PA a few times, I am surprrised there are as many as there are honestly. With the constant complaining in the forums, the overly picky expectations, the small market and the constant sales it's a wonder a PA can make a living selling content here. Obviously I have no idea what goes on behind the scenes between DAZ and the PAs, but on the surface it seems like there should be more incentives to bring in and keep PAs.

  • well I heard from someone who knows, they get literally hundreds of content submissions a day

Given how full of issues some of the products that have been placed in the store recently have been, I'd really hate to see what they've been turning down.  Then again, some of the now top PAs couldn't even get past the front door in the beginning and had to start up over at Renderosity and the product those PAs released over there was certainly of equivalent quality to what was being sold here at the same time.  And, of course, from what I understand, only estabished PAs get the HD tools needed to make certain aspects of the newer DAZ figures, so I suspect it's more like they get that many inquiries than that many actual products.

A few years ago a very prolific PA both here and on Rendo said they did VERY well financially. Enough to buy a large upscale house. I think prolific PAs who have large back catalogs can actually make quite a good living.

Which bundles? Some have had older products, but fewer recently I would think. There are no older products in the Noska bundles - the complaint was about the add-ons, not the bundles themselves.

  • Bundles aside, I think Noska is great! Love the quaility scuplt of the morph and skin textures. Stinks that she does not come with fibermesh brows, however, IMO the recencent female Daz core figures have defintaly been some of the best quaility and diverse I have seen from Daz in a while.

I finally decided that , yeah, the morph added enough to the gene pool to go ahead and purchase her. I will probably use a different skin, however.

Skipped over Alex Capital, but picked up Noska. There's some colours in her skin I really like, and the sculpt of the legs and torso was interesting.

Not enjoying the arm sculpt, particularly the forearm anatomy that has a pancakey kind of flatness I'm having trouble posing. I might just need to play around a bit more. With the eyes the lacrimal area and tear line seem a little flimsy but it is not bothering me enough that I would return her.

She only comes with painted on brows, no hair or attachments. There is a no-brow option and I've used Tasha's eyebrows for these test renders. I think the fine hairs belong to Victoria.

    Heavy makeup.

With Kayo and some new toys.

    With Jinx

Yeah, it's become increasingly annoying how many of the advertised "special features" of the recent DAZ figure lines are failing to come as standard issue even on DAZ's own in-house products.  Coupled with how unflattering the promotional images have become, and the increasing inclusion of old products and completely unrelated items in the bundles, and it really gives the impression that, behind the scenes, everything is getting very slap-dash and thrown together.

Well, after complaining about the Noska deals and coupon, I ended up purchasing the Mega Bundle today. There are some really nice stacking discounts this weekend on the "save 70% on 5 items" and "save 80% on 5 items", so I got 10 items I wanted, like Kitsune 8.1, with discounts ranging from 89-96%, so I'm pretty happy with the savings now :P

This is despite the limited "coupon" which I still hate...and I do feel bad for supporting it lol

Unrelated is obviously a matter of taste, but the increasing inclusion of older items in the bundles is certainly not true that I can see.

These threads always need more renders. (I care nothing for bundles. :p)

She looks good with Kayo, older.

    is the HD necessary?

    is the HD necessary?

Well I don't have it so.... Depends how you're using it. Since I typically blend characters anyhow, I just use the HD of a character in the blend that I do have. (Kayo in the above render) if you tend to use characters at 100% it becomes more necessary. Also, always keep in mind that the normal maps are baked from the HD mesh. They lack the physical displacement obviously, but depending on what sort of renders you do the effect would be more or less obvious (strong rim lighting, for instance, tends to show off hd morphs, but with soft lighting the difference between it and just normal maps is much less distinct)
