Software Police tracked me down!

Email scam warning:

I received an email today telling me to report to court in Colorado on a specific day and time for illegal software use.

I've done a lot of iffy things in my life but nothing (recently) worth dragging me into court for. So I checked and it's apparently a known scam that's been around a year at least.

I did find this article:
http://news.wfsu.org/post/e-mail-scam-summons-victims-court-illegal-software-use
Certainly no court in this country would send out summonses by e-mail.

I didn't open it but did use my mail reader's "Properties" and "Message Source" options to read the plain text in it. If you get a message like this just ignore it and certainly don't open it or click on any links or open any attachments to it.

Point being, I'm NOT being dragged 2000 miles away into court by the Software Police and will be here for the foreseeable future to annoy, amuse, and be available for target practice by all my loyal readers.

Yeah, I got the one telling me to report to Louisiana (where I've never been) for failing to report for jury duty. Be wary of another nasty scam where a guy from "Microsoft Technical Support" tells you that your PC has a virus; those guys called me so many times that I threatened to give them one if they called back (they did, I didn't). ;)

When I get those phone calls, I say "hang on, I'll transfer you to the server room", then hang up. Hey, if they're going to lie to me...

:giggle: I usually just answer them in the dialect of whatever alien species I'm rendering or writing at the time. Never fails to confuse the heck out of whoever's on the line and it's rare they bother to dial back after a couple of rounds of that. ;-)

At least you don't have the "garbage police". I kid you not. The Village actually has someone who goes around and checks to make sure you are using clear garbage bags (unless you are using the correct-as in purchased from the Village-containers) and you have your recyclables in the proper bins. If it's incorrect, the collectors won't take it and the garbage police will leave you a little warning notice stuck to your door.

I think we need underground garbage return pipes. You know,... a vacuum transport system for garbage. Just think of the mess when in 50 years the pipes corrode & collapse. You thought burst water mains were trouble? ... Also makes it easy way to get rid of unwanted feral critters around your house. Just put the cheese near the intake. 8-) But watch the cat and puppies and loose budgies (the birds, not the swimwear, but them too I guess)
