is it maybe a lighting issue?

And promo shots are often edited/post-processed with an image editor like gimp.

Lighting. And that's not rendered far enough it seems, graininess makes it hard to read the skin details. Maybe try some other examples.

I'm wondering where my image went @moderators. I have been a member on this forum for 12 years and I know the rules. It was cropped to be decent and is no different from most of the promo pics in the store. Are you freaking kidding me?

Which image? I still see one attached to your post. In general, if you have questions please contact the moderators directly, rather than posting in the thread. Edit: or I did, now it's gone - sorry, looks like a forum issue rather than rogue moderation.

There are many skin issues that look strange to me in the promos including the hands and knees. I was on the fence about this character but it seems many flaws actually show in the promos.

Maybe you could try to pimp the skin yourself with a skin shader (altern8, anagenesis2)?

I experienced those kind of issues (that the skin can't keep up with the promo pictures) several times with characters I bought.

I rendered using Anagenessis2 (my favourite skin shader ever) and sure enough, the skin detail is popping out now. For those of you who don't know you can apply the G3F shader to G8F and it works like a charm.

Thank you for the suggestions, post title edited.

I use Anagenessis 2 all the time for G8F characters yes  Like you @cridgit it's my favourite and is great for standardizing multiple characters from different vendors in a scene.  It does tend to lighten characters with very dark complexions and I don't use it with on characters with very light complexions as it makes them look ghostly surprise
